Job Category Administrative Position Staffing Coordinator/Nursing Req Code 15420 Location Cascade Valley Hospital Job Summary The Staffing Coordinator/Nursing coordinates staffing requirements and scheduling for Skagit Valley Hospital patient care areas. Prepares reports and performs general clerical duties.

Assists the Administrative Secretary as required. Essential Functions Coordinates daily staffing requirements and scheduling of all patient care areas on a 24-hour basis. Staffs patient care areas in accordance with established matrix, budgetary restraints and SRH policies and procedures.

Monitors overtime, premium pay and contractual requirements for patient care staff. Assures staffing compliance with contract requirements and SRH policies and procedures. Notifies appropriate personnel of compliance issues.

Coordinates acute care unit master schedules and distributes to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Coordinates morgue activities as required. Performs general clerical duties in a timely manner as required.

Assists the Administrative Secretary as required.

Assists co-workers, patients, visitors, physicians and others in a courteous and professional manner. Processes telephone calls appropriately, in a courteous and timely manner.

Ensures payroll and staffing schedules are accurate and complete prior to submission to department leadership. Perform daily changes in Kronos, as well as maintain staff schedules within Kronos and scheduling program. Complies with SRH policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned by Executive or designee. Education High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum one year post high school education.

Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital staffing. Experience/Training Minimum one year clerical experience. Previous scheduling experience required.

Any combination of education and experience that would demonstrate the capability of performing the duties of this position will be considered. License/Certification None required. Other Qualifications Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Proficient computer and office equipment skills. Must have good organization skills and be able to work independently and coordinate multiple priorities. Understands the basic concepts of data management (collection, aggregation, display, storage, validity and reliability); principles of release and retention of information. Customer service oriented.

The RN Supervisor is responsible for staffing the clinical department within the Hospital while staying within the confines of budgetary constraints. Staffing needs, patient room assignments, patient acuity based on assessment, staff work schedules are all of staffing. The RN Supervisor as needed starts PICC lines. The RN Supervisor ensures adherence to time and attendance policies, and other policies. The RN Supervisor coordinates off-hours Environment of Care incidents. Essential Functions Section 1 – Knowledge and Standards of Performance Follows unit specific RN performance standards, structure standards, policies, and procedures. Skills: - Carries out functions of the RN job description in which competency has been verified as needed to assist and assure patient care needs are met. Accesses pharmacy as needed. Provides security measures for hospital. Emergency situations. Demonstrates effective responses to unit-patient crisis situations. Activates Internal Triage procedures per assessment. Calls in surgical team for unscheduled - emergency surgeries. Attends code Blue events. Fills medication orders when pharmacist out of building. They coordinate off hours Environment of Care incidents. Staffing Scheduling - knows and follows the nursing contract and organization policies. Replaces staff from sick calls, consulting with management as needed. Ensures schedule changes that are approved or made in the staffing office are changed in the time and attendance system. These primarily show on the exception log. Responsible for ensuring attendance peer development process is followed. Keeps hours and dollars within the budget, assigns beds for patients, keeping in mind diagnosis, staffing needs and budget. Responsible for overseeing new hire orientation and preceptor program. PICC - Upon completion of certification in PICC skills. Works with PICC team responsible for patient assessment and evaluation in collaboration with physician, respiratory therapy and pharmacy regarding appropriate line placement for specific IV therapy involved. May provide education regarding care and maintenance of PICC lines, monitor and assess outcome analysis pertaining to PICC placements, problem solve issues, and communicate to appropriate personnel as needed. Section 2 – Processes and Procedures Must understand and be able to coordinate the schedules of all nursing units. Assists in assuring the appropriate daily allocation and assignment of available nursing personnel in accordnace with hospital`s personnel policies and nursing contract. *Assists team in following areas: Assessment Completes assessment, shift assessment, and updates as patients condition changes. Care Planning: Helps assure appropriate standards of care and associated protocols are met to meet patinet needs. Collaborates with other health care professionals, trains personnel and teaches or instructs patients regarding PICC lines, communicates POC to other members of health care team. Engages in discharge planning. Evaluation: Demonstrates ongoing evaluatino of unit condition and evaluates effectiveness of care provided. Sets patient care priorities by utilizing policies and procedures. Documentation: Utilizes division and unit documentation tools according to established guidelines. Patient Education: Identifies patient significant other learning needs and implements appropriate teaching protoocols. Patient Rights-Legal Issues: Functions to protect patient privacy, meet patients right to be informed, and protect patient`s valuables per hospital policy. Section 3 – Knowledge/Use of Equipment Demonstrates ability to use equipment, i.e., manual and electronic related to PICC; IV controller/pump, wall suction/chest tube drainage system, stretchers, wall/tank O2, crash cart, ambu bag, cardiac monitor, external pacemaker, rapid fluid infuser, all procedure trays, gastric Lavage, peritoneal Lavage, cricothroidotomy kits, intubation equipment, central line insertion, Philips monitors, defibrillators and other equipment. Section 4 – Continuous Quality Improvement Leads and or participates in developing and designing systems and processes for the organization Continually improves and redesigns processes to increase productivity and quality. Section 5 – Required Education and Training *Continuing education: Identifies new topics for continuing education, and pursues educational offerings. Shares educational information with co-workers, keeps record of continuing education, and uses educational information to develop/update practice standards. Attends all annual mandatory sessions. Actively participates in staff orientation. Meditech computer modules. Pharmacy access. PICC lines. ACLS, TNCC, PALS/ENPC within 6 months of hire.
