Purpose of Your Job Position The primary purpose of your job position is to assist the nursing department in the day-to-day scheduling of personnel or staffing information in accordance with federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern work schedules, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing to ensure that schedules and records are maintained, up-to-date and posted in a timely manner. Delegation of Authority As scheduler, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Major Duties and Responsibilities Operate personal computers to complete scheduling requirements. Develop a thorough understanding of the health care software and word processing software used throughout the facility to maintain schedules. Record scheduling information in accordance with established laws and documentation policies and procedures.

Release information in accordance with established policies and procedures. Type, file and distribute correspondence as necessary.

Answer telephone, page calls, deliver messages as necessary.

Assist in making calls for the nursing department to cover scheduling needs. Review schedules for completeness of information, accuracy, legibility, etc., as directed. Maintain a current list of staff phone numbers.

Adhere to federal privacy act regulations. Maintain confidentiality of all workplace information including resident, employee, and business information. Personnel Functions · Assist in the scheduling of newly hired nursing personnel as directed. · Develop and maintain a good working rapport with other personnel, both within and outside of your department. · Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the facility. · Attend in-service training programs as scheduled. · Attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession.

Safety and Sanitation · Assist in maintaining work areas in a clean and sanitary manner. · Follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies. · Participate in all fire safety and disaster drills/training in a safe and professional manner. · Participate in the implementation and maintenance of the infection control program for monitoring communicable and/or infectious diseases among residents and staff. · Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc., to your supervisor immediately. · Follow established hand-washing techniques. Equipment and Supply Functions · Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible. · Ensure administrative supplies have been replenished in work areas as necessary. Report equipment/supply needs to your supervisor.

Resident Rights · Assure that residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are followed. · Maintain CONFIDENTIALITY of all pertinent resident care information to assure resident rights are protected. · Knock before entering a resident’s room. Working Conditions · Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility. · Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours. · Subject to frequent interruptions. · Attends and participates in continuing educational programs. · May be subjected to infectious diseases, substances, contaminated articles, etc., including potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses. · Communicates with co-workers and the public. · Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc. · Is involved with personnel, visitors, government agencies, etc., under all conditions and circumstances. · Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday. Educational Requirements · High School Diploma. · Proficiency with various computer systems and software applications.

Experience · LTC experience preferred, on-the-job training provided. Specific Requirements · Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language. · Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. · Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors and the general public. · Must be of good moral character. · Ability to work harmoniously with other personnel. · Ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc. · Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices. · Be able to follow written and oral instructions. · Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents, staff, and visitors based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning. Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices) · Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. · Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. · Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met. · Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with other personnel. · Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. · Must be able to operate office machines (computers, typewriters, etc.) · Must be able to lift, push, pull or move equipment, supplies, etc., up to 30 lbs. · Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
