The Integrated Electric Systems team at RTX Technology Research Center invites individuals with high voltage, high power electric systems, power electronics and electromagnetics expertise with strong hardware prototyping skills to apply for an open position. We are seeking technicians who are focused on developing innovative technologies and solving tough problems for aerospace and defense applications. The successful candidate will collaborate within multidisciplinary teams in areas such as hybrid electric propulsion systems, Radio Frequency (RF) power systems, power distribution, controls, motors and drives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience building electrical test setups and supporting testing:

  • Making electrical connections (low (<1A) to high (>100A) current, low (<50V) to high (>1kV) voltage)

  • Build simple mechanical structures using standard frames

  • Lab Maintenance to include:

  • Understands safety of electrical tests and relevant standards of workplace safety (e.g. NFPA70, OSHA standards)

  • Organization of lab space, ordering lab supplies

  • U. S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with using National Instruments hardware and Labview software
  • Knows how to write simple programs (e.g. read thermalcouple temperature using NI modules)
  • Experience with using electrical test equipment and instructions
  • Power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, thermal cameras.
  • Experience with using soldering equipment (e.g. solder iron, hot air station, solder pot)

  • Ability to solder: from small components (e.g. surface-mount devices, complex IC packages) to large components (e.g. high-current connectors >100A)

  • Experience with reworking printed circuit boards, including replacement of surface-mount devices, complex IC packages

  • Experience with assembly of thermal management components, include air-cooled setups (e.g. heatsink and fan assemblies), liquid-cooled setup (e.g. cold plate, cooling lines and chiller connections), and thermal interface materials (e.g. handling of power semiconductors and thermal grease/pads)

  • Understanding of high power motor and drives

  • Operation of dyne-stand and safety

  • Torque meters, speed meters, instrumentation for performance evaluation

  • Familiarity with basic theory and principle of electrical and analog & digital electronic circuit/ Reading and interpreting electrical and electronic circuit blueprints, diagrams, and schematics

  • Experience with PCB design tools and CAD tools is a plus

  • Problem-solving skills: finding the cause and develop viable or creative solutions promptly

  • Good communicating and collaborating skills with team members and other domain experts

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with others respectfully and form productive working relationship.

Education:

Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience or a high school diploma with 8 years of experience.

The salary range for this role is 44,000 USD - 102,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
