Role Summary We are looking for an experienced systems engineer to join the Battery Engineering team. In this role you will take ownership of the HV Battery Pack and subsystem requirements and work with engineering groups across various disciplines to develop and deliver clear, concise requirements to the downstream customers. You will be empowered to apply engineering first principles to elicit system and subsystem requirements to ensure the delivery of a safe, reliable, and robust HV Battery Pack.

You will be the point person for all stakeholders and are able to articulate each party's requirements. You will lead the DFMEA process to ensure that the right design prevention controls and test and validation activities are in place to ensure a successful product launch. You will need to be able to communicate clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical colleagues alike.

Responsibilities Responsible for the HV Battery Pack Systems Engineering focusing on the following aspects of the HV Energy Storage System (ESS) Lead the pack level systems design process to analyze vehicle, powertrain, and end-user specifications to derive pack system requirements Cascade sub-system requirements specifications, validation test procedures & requirements verification traceability. Lead battery product architecture development for new programs.

Develop the Rivian HV safety standards, requirements and design specification.

Ownership of Performance, Mechanical, Thermal, Electrical & Electronic, Environmental, Service, and Manufacturing requirements on the Pack level. Communicate with engineers to update/modify documentation to maintain accurate representation of deliverables; Use tracking tools such as Confluence and JIRA to capture changes.

Ownership of the pack and sub-system DFMEA's.

Support the component engineers with the component DFMEA. Chair the DFMEA working sessions and ensure the right stakeholders are part of the process.

Maintain and update the DFMEA as the development program matures.

Cascade the DFMEA findings and drive pack level design review processes. Coordinate & work with engineers across multiple disciplines to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks:

Work alongside Cell/Module, Thermal and Enclosure Design and Release Engineers to ensure proper requirement cascade and validation processes with robust traceability.

Work with the Battery Systems Engineering Functional Lead to accuately report out status, risks and escalation as necessary. Work with Electromechanical Design team on requirement fulfilment, timing and design review processes.

Holistic understanding of thermal and electrical interdependence in battery pack design; Capable of 1-D modeling analysis for the system all the way down to single components Detailed understanding of software interaction between the battery management system & the rest of vehicle; familiar with battery measurement and controls architecture Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to support new and live programs for issue resolution and coordination of effective lessons learned associated with HV Battery Pack engineering.

Quickly transition to a variety of engineering discipline work, from high-level cross sub-system projects to specific component focus, depending on need of the team and stage of development/ production Must be able to adapt and work within dynamic development timelines, with accelerated hardware production timelines, and software release cadence. Qualifications 5+ years of work experience in Battery and/or Automotive industries At least a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline Strong understanding of High Voltage Safety Strong understanding of capturing electrical, enviromental and other performance requirements of the ESS Previous experience in automotive product development environments Previous experience launching large volume automotive HV battery systems Creating the requirements from the ground up, using engineering analysis Excellent problem-solving skills; reliant on core engineering principles and common sense Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills, both in presentation and technical writing Versed with automated requirements management tools (e.g. JAMA, Doors, Polarion, etc.) Issue tracking tools (Jira, Bugzilla, etc.) Previous experience with product launches and production schedules Pay Disclosure Salary Range Southern CA Based Candidates: $154,000-$193,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
