Job Description:

Position Overview

Seeking a Senior Staff, Software Programmer to contribute to new platform development within Siemens Healthineers Molecular Diagnostics Business located in Berkeley, CA. The Senior Staff, Software Programmer is a senior technical role responsible for software development applied to molecular diagnostics employing PCR. Prototype and develop production-worthy software consistent with quality guidelines such as FDA in support of Class II and Class III clinical tests.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the analysis, evaluation and planning for methods of approach, and organizes means to achieve the solution to highly complex problems.

  • Designs and leads the testing or investigations pertaining to the development of the most complex new designs, methods, materials, or processes and investigates possible application of results.

  • Leads the development of reports, charts, graphs, and other documents and makes recommendations.

  • Reviews and approves related inputs such as experimental reports, analysis and specifications prepared by technical support personnel.

  • Leads the delivery of specifications and directions to team members, suppliers, outside consultants and development partners.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or physics and a track record of contributing to commercially successful products.

  • 10 years of relevant Software Engineer experience.

  • Expertise with Visual C++, C#, .NET, Windows Forms and WPF.

  • Expertise with Windows DLLs.

  • Expertise with localization issues.

  • Strong understanding of RTOS concepts (e.g., ISRs, multi-tasking, semaphores, queues).

  • Experience with unit testing.

  • Experience with "green-field" design challenges is required.

  • Experience interfacing with software test group.

  • Capable of producing succinct documentation.

  • Able to express technical ideas in a group setting.

  • Able to comprehend and comment on technical ideas in a group setting.

  • Given an ill-defined task, capable of defining and implementing the appropriate solution.

  • Flexible coding style to enhance group consistency.

  • Experience with a standard software archiving system.

  • Experience with a standard bug tracking system.

  • Ability to understand scientific and systems-level engineering questions and propose and deliver solutions.

  • Ability to work independently and in project teams.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken or most importantly, through demonstration of beautiful designs

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Knowledge of the quantitative PCR process.

  • Understanding of firmware and real-time issues.

  • CANopen and USB standards.

  • Experience with deconvolution algorithms.

  • Experience with image processing.

  • Participate in FMEA, worst case analysis and verification/validation of product/design

  • Desire to join a start-up effort within a major multi-national corporation.

  • Should be able to draw on first principles to figure out effective solutions.

The Production Studio Assistant is responsible for fostering a positive team-oriented work environment with an emphasis on public service and the mission of the 7-day-a-week program of the Lawrence Hall of Science. Incumbent serves as a member of the Production Studio team assisting with exhibit installations, fabrication, repairs, refurbishment and general operation/maintenance of educational materials and exhibits, reporting directly to the Shop Superintendent. Responsibilities Under supervision provides skilled and semi- skilled mechanical and carpentry work a variety of tools processes, and materials. Responsible for daily turn on/turn off of interactive exhibits ensuring all elements are functional, and maintain educational materials for the museum floor and classrooms reporting to Shop Superintendent when assistance is needed.
