The Platform Integration team at SmartThings is seeking an experiencedl staff level engineer to help us extend our platform and enable partners in key verticals to leverage SmartThings for their IoT needs. This is an exciting, unique opportunity to be a key contributor to the growth of the Samsung SmartThings IoT platform!

As a member of the Platform Integration team, you will contribute to one of the world's largest IoT platforms by:

  • Designing and implementing REST APIs using a microservice architecture, that enables partners to solve new and interesting use cases using the SmartThings platform.

  • Extending the core SmartThings platform to enable additional integration points as needed.

  • Working closely with other SmartThings Engineering and Product teams, as well as integration partners, to identify and build out solutions that make our customers (other developers and end users) happy.


  • Deep experience designing, implementing, deploying, and maintaining secure JVM-based services at scale.

  • Excellent communication skills across a broad array of stakeholders and collaborators - you know how to work effectively with other engineers, Product Management, QA, partners and customers, across different geographies and time zones.

  • Ability to transform high-level product requirements into delivered results through iterative communication, design, implementation, and feedback.

  • You thrive in a docs-first, test-driven, agile, customer-focused environment.

  • Demonstrated experience with the following tools and languages: Git, cloud services platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), Java, other JVM languages.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with DropWizard or Ratpack JVM web frameworks.

  • Experience with AWS and managed services such as Aurora, RDS, and/or DynamoDB.

  • Experience working with and implementing OAuth security flows.

  • Experience with and are passionate about the Internet of Things.

  • Love building and working on cloud services that have other developers as customers.
