Role Overview:

McAfee is seeking an experienced Staff Software Developer to lead efforts on our next-gen threat assessment platform. In this position, you will work alongside threat researchers to understand, design, and implement solutions to the problems found in today's fast-changing security landscape. You will also work with development teams in Oregon and Ireland as they maintain and extend our existing classification systems.

The position reports to Director of Engineering, Threat Insights Platform, part of the McAfee's Data and Insights Group. This team develops business-critical systems that analyze URL and file-based threats, utilizing product telemetry to provide real-time threat assessments and information to hundreds of millions of McAfee customers. Our group has its largest presence in Cork, Ireland and Hillsboro, Oregon, with some other remote employees throughout the U.S.

The Staff Software Engineer will develop software as the primary job function; Designs, develops, debugs & tests complex software in any field e.g., systems software, software development tools, applications, drivers, numerical methods, UI's, web. Usually holds an academic degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Computational Science.

About the Job:

The ideal candidate has experience in the security industry, an understanding of cloud platforms and cloud migrations, experience with large distributed systems, and a track record of taking leadership roles on development efforts. The position will require a goal-driven, self-motivated attitude, attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work with a globally-dispersed team. Travel is required approximately 2-3 weeks per year. Additional responsibilities:

  • Design and architect solutions, working closely with researchers, product owners, and management to define and deliver ongoing and roadmap commitments

  • Rapid break/fix and proof-of-concept development to test new ideas

  • Provide technical guidance to engineers responsible for our production codebase

  • Design and rapid prototyping of solutions to leverage cloud-based technologies for cost savings and on-demand scaling

  • Provide occasional off-hours support or collaboration in cases of production-impacting issues

About You:

You are a senior level Engineer who has significant proficiency in the following:

  • .NET, C++, Java, C, and Python

  • RESTful web services using .NET, Java, and/or Python stacks

  • Relational databases, preferably MS SQL Server

  • Non-relational databases, preferably MongoDB

  • Automation of virtualization environments, preferably VMware products (e.g. cuckoo sandbox)

  • Experience with system migration to a cloud service (e.g. AWS)

  • Experience with AWS technologies delivering auto-scaling, high-throughput, data-driven applications

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Tensorflow

  • Containerization (docker, kubernetes, etc.)

  • Github, Jenkins, artifactory

  • CI/CD experience

  • Agile methodologies
