We are looking for an exceptionally experienced Engineer to join the Frontend team as a Staff Software Engineer. The role demands expert-level knowledge of the Frontend tech stack -- not just how to build on top of it, but how to build a production-grade performant, maintainable platform from the ground up. How do we manage state? How do we monitor application performance? How do we run continuous integration? You tell us as a Staff Software Engineer.

The ideal candidate will have a breadth of knowledge & experience in frontend technology trends in the industry. You radiate this technical knowledge and mentor and guide frontend engineers on software development best practices, architecture, design patterns, etc. You have the ability to tackle large and challenging problems and have the ability to innovate and propose things that no one before you has thought of. We need you to be versatile, display leadership, be a strong individual contributor, and be enthusiastic to take on new problems to continue to push our platform forward.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Individual Contribution:

  • Regularly ship high-quality code to customers, both internal and external.

  • Regularly review code and architecture contributed by other engineers on the team.

  • Owns at least one mission-critical domain or system & KPIs for them.

  • Is available and ready to spelunk production issues.

Project Delivery & Business Alignment:

  • Partner with Backend, Infrastructure, Product, UX & Design teams to come up with creative technology solutions to business problems.

  • Communicate technical topics effectively to engineers and business partners.

  • Improve visibility into Frontend architecture for all stakeholders.

  • Scope projects in collaboration with stakeholders to achieve business goals.

  • Help engineers identify small shippable components.

  • Drive the team towards better estimates & predictability.

Team Building:

  • Help attract highly-skilled engineers and interview them.

  • Help onboard and mentor new engineers to our tech stack.

  • Foster good working relationships in the team.

  • Encourage and lead productive technical discussions and build consensus on technical direction.

  • Mentor engineers in their domain and across teams.

  • Proactively radiate knowledge and raise the general skill level of the team.

  • Proactively reach out to engineers and leads, check-in with them on technical topics and help engineers and leads grow.

Evolving the Frontend Platform:

  • Constantly evaluate and stress test our FE tech stack and identify opportunities and risks.

  • Keep up with the latest trends in FE technologies, especially as it relates to e-commerce experience.

  • Nurture the architecture of our frontend platforms as we regularly add features to it.

  • Ensure that our production frontend applications and build pipelines are performant, reliable, responsive, maintainable and of high quality with minimal tech debt.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience or education

  • 6+ years in software development

  • 3+ years architecting and building scalable Frontend web solutions using JavaScript, Node, SPA frameworks (e.g. React), HTML, CSS, and other fundamental web technologies

  • Knowledge of API interfaces like REST, GraphQL

  • Ability to maximize performance across platforms

  • Proactively writes clear documentation articulating platform state, architecture, and ideas

  • Broad understanding of different technologies not limited to Frontend (e.g. Docker, MySQL, AWS) within a stack and how each piece works together

  • Experience implementing software development best practices for code management, continuous integration, and automated testing (unit, integration, e2e)

  • Experience working with code and project management tools such as Git, NPM, Jenkins, Jira, Confluence

  • Strong working knowledge of REST APIs and integrating with them, including security and performance considerations

  • Experience working with devops platforms like Kubernetes, Docker, Vagrant preferred

  • Prior experience with asynchronous e-commerce is a big plus
