This position (Staff Software Architect
Cloud Platform Health
Infrastructure) is on the Health Engineering Team, you would specifically be working within the infrastructure/Platform area, working hands on with cloud technologies. You would have no direct reports, but viewed as a Platform Leader to set direction, partner with Engineering Leadership to drive key imperatives, mentor/coach other member of the Platform team, and continuous look for opportunities to automate, apply new AWS features, and drive the team for continuous technology modernization while reducing technical debt. You will closely partner with either Engineering Application Leaders, Data Engineering leaders, AWS account managers, and other Appriss Health professionals needing assistance while seeking practical solutions that prioritize needs while exhibiting qualities of a supportive team member and platform engineer modeling best practice coding standards.
You're adaptable. As priorities change, you're able to adjust your contributions accordingly. This may involve building a new technical skillset, reviewing the design of a new component, or assisting with sprint activities in non-developmental phases. As a Platform leader and will need to help drive and execute on strategy, execute on Platform key imperatives (Hoshin/Operational Key Results), and act as mentor for junior Platform team members.

Drives and facilitates effective collaboration and communications across Engineering Health with focus on platform reliability, technical debt elimination, achieving key imperatives, advancing the platform, and meeting team and individual Say-Do metrics.
Create awareness and implement AWS technology and process improvement opportunities, including scheduling Lunch & Learns, mentoring junior members, driving monthly AWS meetings, etc.
Design, Plan, Execute, and Oversee production changes across Kubernetes, AWS, and RDBMS platforms.
Build consensus among a diverse group of Engineering stakeholders, including facilitating resolution to challenges that arise from Platform processes that span across Health with the ability to balance priorities due to outage impact, stakeholder contracts, or internal noise.
Identify current-state baselines metrics and target performance metrics for future state while creating a Platform multi-year roadmap. This includes process improvement in the space of CICD, AWS Cost Savings, maintaining SLAs, hitting sprint metrics, obtaining/maintaining FedRamp/HiTrust certifications, and increasing Platform quality/throughput.
Oversee and provide weekly input into Platform Sprint Planning, assist in meeting service level/providing production support, hands on in meeting strategic imperatives, and when necessary coach team members on AWS best practices.
Educate Health professionals on the Platform strategy, as well as educating/influencing Senior Health Leadership on the direction of the Platform engineering team, especially when it comes to technical debt, platform transformations, and Platform roadmap vision.
Work with Platform internal colleagues/peers to ensure they have the appropriate information and knowledge at hand to be successful in meeting Platform Sprint metrics, as well as close partnership/collaboration with Enterprise Architects to ensure a complete Health Engineering vision.
Responsibilities will include on call production support escalation/safety net, ~1 week every month.
Provide input in, create, and hold coding standards and best practices sacred while challenging the status quo to provide improvement, advancements, and forward progress.
As a Platform Leader you are will be empowered to lead change, drive the technical roadmap, assist junior team members with their learning and help them upskill. Furthermore, as a Platform leader you will provide input into team's priorities, help provide year end datapoints/feedback on team members, and stay abreast and partner with other Engineering Health Leaders to ensure the overall Health Engineering team is operating smoothly, harmoniously, and productively.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment
Strong technical problem-solving abilities
Strong background in the design, development, maintenance, and testing of software
3 - 5 years of experience with managed AWS service
3- 5 years' experience working in a fast-paced, highly challenging and primarily AWS environment
Proficient in several industry leading programming languages.
Experience developing web-based applications using Ruby on Rails, Java or C#.
3 - 5 years' experience with AWS and Public Cloud Solutions/Services
3 - 5 years' experience with Kubernetes and Docker
Experience designing and maintaining relational databases on MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle relational database systems.
