Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Director of Agriculture, Arts and Education, the duties of the Agriculture, Arts and Education Manager include but are not limited to coordinating and facilitating staff in the creation and management of Fair competitions; preparing rules, regulations and orders governing the entry, display and judging of exhibits and managing their execution; organizing competitions, shows and the judging of exhibit displays; determining exhibit classes and creating entry materials for publication; arranging for and supervising special events; writing publicity materials; creating organizational structure; preparing reports; planning budgets; purchasing materials; creating contracts and working with contractors; and securing rentals. The Manager will lead staff in all processes relating to temporary hiring, exhibit administration, and presentation of educational exhibits for the 22nd District Agricultural Association (the District). The Manager will oversee and direct the work of direct reports, which is comprised of planning, organizing, promoting, and directing competitive exhibits such as photography, art, flower and garden shows, home arts and crafts, livestock, and special exhibits such as wine, beer, distilled spirits, agriculture, demonstrations, traveling exhibits and cultural exhibits and events. The ideal candidate will produce programs and competitions that not only lead the industry in innovation, but also attract new customers.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with artificial light and climate control. While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear.

The employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment, push and pull file drawers, and move bank boxes up to 25 pounds. At times, work activities can involve walking and standing on foot for long periods. Work activities also require the employee to read, write, and speak English at a level required for successful job performance.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Three or more years of experience in a supervisory capacity over a staff performing duties related to event management.

  • Five or more years of experience overseeing fair administrative duties, exhibit or event programming, and/or competition program supervision.

  • Bachelor's degree or higher

  • Knowledge and experience in methods of education, procurement, or business administration, ideally for Fairs, multi-day events and/or festivals.

  • Knowledge of online competition processes and judging procedures.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of report writing and all forms of written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to analyze data, draw sound conclusions, and develop solutions-oriented action plans.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office - Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Strong communication skills including report writing, business correspondence, procedure manual creation, and effective presentation skills.
