Job Description and Duties

This position is hybrid and eligible for telework up to three days a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Under the general direction of the Chief of Human Resources (HR) in the Office of Human Resources (OHR), the Staff Services Manager (SSM) I Specialist functions in a non-supervisory staff capacity as a high-level departmental expert and consultant in the administration of Department of General Services' (DGS') Career Executive Assignments (CEA) and Exempt position entitlements; develops CEA concepts and proposals, executive examinations, Exempt Position Requests (EPRs), highly complex justifications, job descriptions, and other associated documentation while ensuring compliance with personnel laws, rules, policies and procedures. With a high degree of responsibility and confidentiality, the position performs executive-level administrative assignments efficiently and effectively utilizing general office equipment and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting platforms, various research platforms, and project management tools.

This position is Limited Term (12 Months); it may become permanent, be extended, or be cancelled at any time.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in human resources.
