Lead Staff RN III coordinates the clinical shift operations and distribution of work, and oversees patient care and safety in an assigned clinical area to include: Providing direct patient care when required, facilitating patient throughput/flow, maintaining operational efficiency, initiating rapid response for emergencies, rounding on all patients, managing service recovery, equipment and supply management, and providing support to clinical staff. She/he facilitates communication with Clinical Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, and physician(s)/provider(s) as indicated by changes in patient status, acuity, treatment needs, as well as patient volume and operational needs. Also acts as a mentor, preceptor and resource for new employees, demonstrating clinical competence and specialty knowledge.

  • Relieve RNs in care team for breaks and assume patient care assignment if multiple critical patients are in assigned area requiring 1:1 care.

  • Make rounds a minimum of every 3 hours to review patient satisfaction and comfort, check infusions, assist bedside RNs as needed, and support orientees/residents, preceptors and new hires.

  • Review Emergency Department medical record for accurate and complete documentation, order completion, and appropriate consents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES, LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time recent experience as a RN post-orientation or post-residency training.

  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibilities and clinical expertise in area.

  • Successful completion of a Leadership Development course prior to appointment, or within six (6) months of employment.

  • Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

  • Certified in Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) or equivalent.

  • Must meet all Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) personnel qualifications and responsibilities requirements for individuals directing or performing non-waived point of care testing as stated in 42 CFR, Part 493, Subpart M.

  • Other REQUIRED RN attributes are unit specific. Please refer to the specific clinical unit.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED:

  • BSN degree preferred.

  • National Certification in Clinical Specialty preferred
