Dominican offers emergency services and is a Certified Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center. As Santa Cruz County's heart attack (STEMI) receiving center, Dominican Hospital provides cutting edge cardiac care. The hospital's heart attack treatment times consistently beat the national average, and the hospital offers two cardiac catheterization labs available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Groundbreaking cardiac procedures at Dominican include the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, which allows for heart valve replacement without opening a patient's chest.

Dominican Hospital has forged significant partnerships with area hospitals to bring exceptional care to Santa Cruz County. The hospital offers a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through a partnership with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. Community programs include a Mobile Wellness Clinic, a tattoo removal program, and support groups for patients and new mothers. In addition, and in accordance with our mission, Dominican Hospital supports programs for the underserved in our community, including children and adults, students, seniors, and the homeless population. Responsibilities

Renders professional nursing care to pediatric, mother baby couplets, pediatric, gynecological and overflow patients in support of medical care as directed by physicians, and in accordance with established hospital customer relations credo, policies and procedures.

The RN is responsible to maintain and continually improve the specific skill set required perform the duties of an RN within the Maternal Child Health areas. The RN is responsible for developing and achieving personal annual performance improvement objectives in conjunction with the service line manager.

ALL REGISTERED NURSES will render professional nursing care to patients, support medical care as directed by physicians. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Dignity Health/Dominican Hospital.

It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The RN shall support Dignity Health/Dominican Hospital's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities and patient satisfaction.

  • One year of recent hospital experience

  • Proficient in English

  • Verbal and written communication skills, and computer skills required.

  • Current and active CA RN license

  • Current BLS certification Current PALS certification

ResponsibilitiesStaff Nurse III Independently performs the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic care for patients with overt and covert needs and/or complication of treatment, for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient population. Assumes the responsibilities of teaching patients and caregivers in disease process, management and prevention. Case Manages the patient care administered by other members of the nursing staff. Staff Nurse III Additional Experience and other Requirements: * Completion of three years of employment at the Staff Nurse II level with the last six months of employment completed at Dominican Hospital, or three years of employment at a comparable level at another acute care hospital, or completion of two years of employment at the Staff Nurse II level with the last six months of employment completed at Dominican Hospital (or comparable acute care hospital) and completion of a baccalaureate or masters degree in nursing or health related field. * Currently employed as registered nurse in a patient care setting at .7 FTE status or greater. * Employed minimally for 3 months in Dominican Home Health (or 1 year previous Home Health Case Manager experience in another agency). * Attains qualifying score on performance evaluation received within the last 12 months. * Meets criteria and performs Home Health Case Management duties. * Performs relief charge nurse duties as needed. Position Summary: (Unit Specific) The Registered Nurse plans, organizes and directs home care services and is experienced in nursing, with emphasis on community health education/experience. The professional nurse builds from the resources of the community to plan and direct services to meet the needs of individual and families within their homes and communities. This nurse acts as a facilitator, coordinator, advocate, educator, and skilled caregiver for clients and families. The Registered Nurse makes the initial Home Health evaluation, develops and revises a plan of care based on an initial assessment, continual reassessment of client/family needs, client history, nursing diagnosis, physician orders, expected outcomes, and client goals. Initiates appropriate preventative and rehabilitative nursing procedures, provides direct skilled care, formulates and implements appropriate teaching plans including medication management, communicates significant clinical findings and changes in status to the physician and other involved personnel. Position Responsibilities: The RN is knowledgeable regarding the services provided by the agency, the principles of homecare and the patient population served by the agency. The RN is knowledgeable regarding Title 22 regulations, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and Joint Commission standards. RNs must be able to effectively apply critical thinking and nursing skills to a wide range of medical and surgical patients independently in the home (under minimal office supervision). RNs must be able to identify and apply skilled nursing care appropriate to the specific patient age groups served. The RN is proficient in using the OASIS Assessment tool for initial and on-going patient evaluations. The RN is responsible for supporting efforts to improve clinical and service excellence of patient care provided. The RN will participate in the achievement of service targets and process goals. The RN will participate in clinical record review and process/ quality improvement activities.
