About This Position:

United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) has a newly created position of Computer Vision Research Scientist & Engineer.

In this role, you will work under the aegis of the Decision Support and Machine Intelligence Group, part of UTRC's Systems Department. The group takes on cutting edge challenges in machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and human computer interaction. A broad array of business challenges include autonomous flight, material discovery and design, security access and surveillance systems, analytics of jet engine data, human in the loop adaptive learning, and prognostics health management (PHM). We're looking for creative people eager to find new ways to extract value through the integration of new and existing data sources with cutting edge analysis and tools.

Our ideal person has the ability to perform the following functions:

  • Research, design and prototype novel analytics algorithms and models by utilizing multiple sensors for visual inspection with deep working knowledge in statistical machine learning methods and deep neural networks.

  • Demonstrable research experience on computer vision tasks such as object classification and localization, action/activity recognition, scene understanding, object tracking, registration, and/or multi-modal fusion

  • Create strategic roadmaps in the aforementioned domains

  • Demonstrate expertise in mentoring and supervision of the development of video analytics solutions

  • Demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and execute funding opportunities in both internal and external R&D.

  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field by continuous learning and enthusiastically champion new ideas and new problem definitions.

Additionally, this role requires an ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on innovation and be able to partner with leading, worldwide institutions (university, government agencies, national labs, and professional organizations) to meet organizational objectives. We need someone with exceptional communication skills and ability to provide timely, accurate and detailed reports, presentations and technical papers for archival journals.

Education / Certifications

  • Master's Degree required

  • Ph.D. in, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred

Basic Qualifications

  • You've obtained a Master's Degree or Ph.D. Preferred fields of study include Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering

  • Applicants with a MS degree will be required to have at least 4+ years post-grad research experience and performance on a government agency proposal

  • Those who have completed their Ph.D. program can be considered with 2 or more years of post-grad research experience

  • 2+ years of demonstrable proficiency in C/C++, Python, and/or Matlab

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical, , or Computer Engineer, or related engineering field with

  • 4 years of post-grad industry research experience

  • Publication track record in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences and/or journals

  • Proficiency in Python, C/C++, and/or Matlab

  • Familiarity with deep learning tools including Theano, Torch, Caffe and/or TensorFlow

Additional Skills and Abilities

  • You have an intense passion for technology and an ability to learn quickly staying abreast of cutting edge technology, industry leading techniques and other skill sets

  • Strong analytical, project management, problem-solving, interpersonal, leadership skills

  • Proven effective utilization of Six-Sigma, Continuous Improvement, or Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) and a history of driving process improvements. Associate Certification is strongly preferred

  • You're a dynamic problem solver with the ability to craft solutions to everyday challenges with creative new ideas

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of management, business development, researchers and clients

  • Excellent customer-focused work ethic

  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, team environment

  • Ability to work independently and work with limited direction to accomplish project goals

  • Self-starter with willingness to take initiative, support strategic priorities, take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives and contribute to results and ability to work with a minimum supervision

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and solid track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation and initiative

  • Outstanding formal and informal presentation skills

  • You are comfortable working with Microsoft Office applications and SAP

Typical responsibilities include; * Provide programming support for process development on new product introduction. * Support cost reduction of mature product through improved part processing time using efficient CAM technology and innovative mistake proofing techniques. * Integrate closed loop methodology through on-machine probing and data collection to enable process control and reduce operator intervention. * Provide analytical recommendations to optimize programs and machine tool capabilities using machining modeling software tools. * Generate and utilize NC verification software. * Support continuous improvement of documented best practices and standard work for the NC sub-discipline. * US Citizenship is required due to government contract Required Qualifications: * Master's Degree with 3+ years of programming experience OR * Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of programming experience OR * Associate's Degree with 7+ years of programming experience OR * in lieu of a degree, 11+ years of programming experience * Candidate must have 5 years or more experience programming 2-5 axis machine tools using CAD/CAM applications * Requires 3 years or more experience working from data such as solid models, part and tool drawing * 3 years or more experience of CNC controls, machining techniques and machine tool capabilities to design programs that incorporate sound machining processes.
