Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Health Sciences or related field

  • Ability to perform standard cellular and molecular biology techniques

  • Knowledge and ability to control safe and efficient use of laboratory equipment, supplies, and space

  • Demonstrated skill and fundamental knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and laboratory methods

  • Demonstrated ability to use computers to accurately enter data, including graphing, and data analysis programs. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel.

  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely records of experiments, samples, and equipment

  • Skill in working independently with minimal supervision and following through on assignments from initiation to completion.

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures associated with handling and disposal of chemicals, biological, and biohazard waste.

  • Demonstrated mathematical skill in preparation of various stock solutions

  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs.

Description of Duties:

  • Conduct routine analysis of samples for various established assays in the lab

  • Maintain and review QC/Control records in accordance with GLP regulations

  • Assist in processing, labelling, recording, and shipment of samples as and when necessary

  • Perform molecular assays including ELISA, COBAS, and semen analysis

  • Assist in sample preparation for LC/MS/MS analysis as and when necessary

  • Individually responsible for assays including LH, FSH, SHBG and other validated assays in the lab

  • Assist in processing, labelling, and shipment of samples as and when necessary

  • Maintain and review QC/Control records

  • Perform lab responsibilities in accordance with GLP regulations

The Clinical Research Assistant assists Principal Investigator with the development and implementation of Hospital Medicine/General Pediatric research activities conducted in the Division of Hospital Medicine including IRB applications, consenting families, implementing research, data analysis, grant preparation, professional presentations and preparation of manuscripts for publication. Identifies eligible subjects for research studies. Obtains informed consent from subjects for research studies. Develops, inputs and checks data/data files (excel or SPSS). Assists Hospital Medicine or investigators in preparing CCI application for research studies. Types and proofs a variety of technical manuscripts and grants utilizing medical or field related terminology; edits; assembles reports, documents and/or grants. Performs literature searches via MEDLINE, PubMed, PsychInfo (on internet). Prepares file folders for new grant files. Runs simple descriptive statistics and some advanced statistics using SPSS; sorts data files by variable(s); generates graphs and tables. Maintains table of contents of current psychological or behavioral health research journals. Identifies articles pertinent to Hospital Medicine departmental research and as directed by Faculty. Manages files for research projects/studies. Develops process charts. Identifies pertinent literature from literature search and requests or obtains articles from the library. Manages instrument file and adds instruments as pertinent. Manages and keeps current funding source file from Federal, foundation or other financial resources. Checks NIH listings on the internet for funding pertinent to projects at CHLA. Photocopies materials following general instruction within specified time frame. # Minimum Education/Training Preferred: Bachelors Degree. Minimum Experience Required: Minimum of one-year clinical research experience. # Skills Required: Ability to accurately interpret and enter data into the computer system. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet skills required. SPSS working knowledge preferred. Basic filing and organizing skills Typing skill at 50 WPM.
