Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), part of Vaden Health Center at Stanford University, invites applicants for the position of Staff Psychologist to provide services for students at Stanford Law School (SLS). CAPS is a college mental health clinic with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals who are dedicated to the pursuit of clinical excellence, organizational diversity, and social justice. Vaden Health Center is within the Division of Student Affairs which advances student development and learning, fosters community engagement, and empowers students and staff to thrive. This is a full-time position as an embedded provider at Stanford Law School.

The successful candidate will have a deep commitment to cultural humility and equity. They will be able to convey a history of working across diverse identities (including but not limited to race, gender, sexuality, and ability status) and demonstrate their commitment to inclusivity. The candidate will have a working understanding of the strengths of diverse students as well as an awareness of how systemic inequities can impact students training for a career in law. Finally, the successful candidate will have the skills to provide culturally sensitive care.

JOB PURPOSE:

Provide clinical consultation, crisis intervention and on-call services, individual counseling, group therapy, and outreach programming for the Stanford law student body. While this position reports to CAPS, this clinician will work almost exclusively with the law school and will coordinate closely with the law school's dean of students and Office of Student Affairs.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide a wide range of direct clinical services to law students, and work with faculty and administrators in consultation, outreach, and other collaborative initiatives.

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient mental health services and programs to a diverse law student population.

  • Provide initial clinical consultation and individual brief therapy.

  • Lead therapy groups and clinical workshops.

  • Manage referrals to community providers as indicated.

  • Provide crisis assessment, intervention, and management to students of concern or in crisis; assess need for higher levels of care.

  • Evaluate and respond to emergency situations; provide consultation to the campus for urgent/crisis situations.

  • Work with students requiring higher levels of care, including participation in discharge planning and management of referrals as indicated.

  • Develop educational and wellness programming for law students, and other activities as needed.

  • Participate in CAPS and Vaden Health Center meetings and development activities; complete special projects as assigned.

  • Provide supervision and training for pre- and post-doctoral psychology trainees as needed

  • Other duties may also be assigned.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-approved training program

  • Completion of an APA-approved internship

  • Minimum of one year of postdoctoral training

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in clinical skills in evaluation, crisis intervention, and case management.

  • Proven ability to interact with diverse constituencies.

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills (oral and written)

Certifications and Licenses: Licensed Psychologist in the state of California

Strongly preferred qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of post-licensure work history and previous experience working in college counseling centers, with a preference for working with professional degree students, particularly law students

  • Work or lived experience with underrepresented minority communities

  • Demonstrated experience in providing care that is rooted in cultural humility and social-justice values

  • Knowledge of, or experience with, legal education

Working Conditions: Job will likely entail after-hours availability on evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays in response to the needs of the Stanford Law School community.

The expected pay range for this position is $120,000 to $143,000 annually.
