About Harris County Children Assessment Center:

The Children's Assessment Center (The CAC) provides a safe haven to sexually abused children and their families - a place where they can receive the kind of care and treatment they so richly deserve.

We employ an extraordinarily effective multidisciplinary team approach in the prevention, assessment, investigation, referral for prosecution, and treatment of child sexual abuse. Our goal is to promote the complete healing of child victims of sexual abuse and their families.

Staff Psychologist Overview:

The Staff Psychologist is responsible for providing psychological assessments and therapeutic services at Harris County The Children's Assessment Center (CAC).

The Staff Psychologist will also be responsiblefor providing expert court testimony in criminal and civil child abuse proceedings.

Duties & Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducts individual and group psychotherapy with victims of child sexual abuse, non-offending caregivers of sexual abuse victims, and siblings of sexual abuse victims.

  • Conducts psychological evaluations of children and adults.

  • Provides supervision to psychology interns and students.

  • Conducts trainings pertinent to child development, child sexual abuse, youth with problematic sexual behaviors, and cultural diversity issues.

  • Serves as a consultant to CAC staff and CAC partner agencies regarding the role of psychology and the dynamics of child sexual abuse.

  • Works with an interdisciplinary team to provide effective services to youth, including child welfare, law enforcement, medical personnel, and the District Attorney's office.

  • Conducts Crisis Interventions, including Suicide Assessments and Homicide Assessments

  • Provides expert witness and fact witness testimony in criminal and civil child abuse proceedings

  • Adheres to APA Ethical Guidelines in performing all job duties.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Advanced Skill

  • Must possess a Ph.D. or a Psy.D. in a practice-grounded area of Psychology, such as Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or School Psychology

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in Assessment, Psychotherapy and/or Child Sexual Abuse

  • Professional experience in working with legal and protective systems

  • Professional experience in working with multidisciplinary programs

Licensure:

  • Licensed Psychologist in the State of Texas or be Provisionally Licensed in the State of Texas

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of trauma and the assessment of trauma

  • Knowledge of the treatment of trauma

  • Knowledge of the stages of child development

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention

  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing

Preferences

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Experience with child sexual abuse and/or other trauma populations.

Language:

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish; must be fluent in written and oral communication, with the ability to provide mental health services in Spanish.

General Information

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Full-time | Regular

  • Monday - Friday

  • Hours Will Be Discussed During Departmental Interview

  • Pay is Commensurate With Experience Based on 26 Pay Periods

Additional Information:
