California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) is seeking proactive, knowledgeable psychiatrists with an interest in correctional and/or forensic psychiatry to join our multidisciplinary teams. Within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's adult correctional facilities, you will find like-minded professionals committed to providing optimal care, promoting patients' successful reintegration into society, and reducing recidivism and well-versed in the intricate psychiatric and medical interplay necessary to treat our diverse patient population. Here, you will develop treatment plans for cases you won't encounter in any other practice. And with the support of our dedicated medical assistants, you'll be able to devote your time to practicing and honing advanced psychopharmacological skills. During the COVID-19 state of emergency, the Mental Health Program will offer Telework options which will be provided based on operational availability. In addition, hiring interviews will be available virtually using teleconferencing or video conferencing options.

California Correctional Health Care Services is seeking proactive, knowledgeable psychiatrists with an interest in correctional and/or forensic psychiatry to join our Psychiatric Inpatient Program (PIP). Within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's adult correctional facilities, you will find like-minded professionals well-versed in the intricate psychiatric and medical interplay necessary to treat our diverse patient population.

Within the PIP, you will:

  • Perform psychiatric evaluation for assigned in-patients in the Acute Psychiatric Program and/or Intermediate Treatment Program units

  • Write orders for admission, transfer, discharge, medications, restraints, seclusion, and suicide precautions

  • Provide individual and group psychotherapy

  • Collaborate and consult with medical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team

  • Participate in the compensated on-call rotation program and morning rounds

Under the supervision of the Program Director - Chief of Rehabilitation Services, the Rehab Therapist (Rec) shall provide diagnostic, rehabilitative, and treatment services to the patients of the Salinas Valley - Psychiatric Inpatient Program. The Rehab Therapist (Rec) provides services services through appropriate forensic inmate assessment, treatment, service planning, therapeutic activities, discharge planning, and community reintegration by using the principles and practices of these disciples to develop, maintain, or restore physical, emotional, and social competencies. Recreation Therapists within our health care system must meet the professional codes noted below: Per Business and Professions Code Section 17505.2 (a)(1) and (a)(2): (a) It is unlawful for a person to represent himself or herself as a recreation therapist, to represent the services he or she performs as recreation therapy, or to use terms set forth in subdivision (c) in connection with his or her services, name, or place of business, unless he or she meets all of the following requirements: (1) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in recreation therapy or in recreation and leisure studies with a specialization in recreation therapy. Alternatively, a person who does not have one of the preceding degrees may qualify if he or she has a baccalaureate degree in a specialization acceptable for certification or eligible for certification by any accrediting body specified in paragraph (2). (2) Current certification or eligibility for certification as a recreation therapist by the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification or by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, Inc.
