Education: Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related
Job duties: Design technologies specializing in light information and light energy, including laser and fiber optics technology. Develop characterization techniques for optical fibers. Develop process optimization tools with standard operating procedures for engineers and technicians. Manage cross-functional engineering projects related to optical fiber manufacturing, characterization, and troubleshooting. Analyze experimental data, generate summary reports, and communicate results to internal teams & external customers. Characterize key optical performance characteristics to support new product introductions. Participate in new product development programs. Simulate waveguides and other physical processes.
Requirements: 2 years of experience with optics, optical fiber, optical component testing or related. Requires skills and experience to include:
Experience solving technical problems for customer support and production-related issues using structured techniques (such as A3/8D, etc) that focus on Problem Definition, Containment, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Actions, and Follow-ups.
Experience analyzing experimental data and generating summary reports.
Optical Fiber Cleave and Splice Experience which includes the use of microscopy and interferometry techniques to characterize key performance characteristics of new fiber products to support their market introduction.
Working knowledge of Matlab, LabVIEW, Firmware, Minitab, JMP, and C++.
Ability to write waveguide and Multi-physics simulations in order to design optical fibers and optical systems that can meet target performance requirements.
Experience with optical systems including the ability to design, build, and characterize optical systems used to test the performance characteristics of optical fibers.
