Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Staff Nurse for Pediatric Pulmonology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. In accordance with professional nursing standards, skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.

  • Administers prescribed medications, teaches patients how to administer injectable and inhalation medication.

  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.

  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.

  • Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.

  • Responds to life savings situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocol.

Functions in the role of full-time registered nurse at RWJMS. Attend Rheumatology clinics working in a collegial environment with physicians and staff. Follows up on test results, calls patients/parents and documents labs and medication flow sheet. Involved in data collection, entry and research. Responsible for the development of health services outreach in the community and area hospitals to improve health care access.</p><p>Among the key duties of this position are the following:</p><ul><li><p>Refers patients appropriately.</p></li><li><p>Develops and implements a plan of care in collaboration with physicians.</p></li><li><p>Teaching of common medications used in pediatric rheumatology including immunosuppressive and chemotherapeutic agents in collaboration with physicians.</p></li><li><p>Review of plan and instruction handout in clinic /and if patient calls.</p></li><li><p>Review of teaching handout. Discuss with parents in collaboration with physicians and set up steroid injections, infusions and admissions.</p></li><li><p>Writing out letters for school, accommodation letters for college, completing forms for disability and family leave.</p></li><li><p>Call lab for specific missing blood tests.</p></li><li><p>Collect relevant information from chart to be given to Preauthorization nurse for procedures.</p></li><li><p>Triage patients appropriately and notify MDs in case of emergency.</p></li><li><p>Orders diagnostic procedures in collaboration with physicians.</p></li></ul> Rutgers University New Brunswick NJ
