We are currently seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer with a current/active Secret clearance to join our growing team in Northridge, CA.

In this role, the selected candidate will:

  • Develop innovative conceptual designs for defense related programs.

  • Be responsible for Mechanical Architecture and detail design.

  • Create drawings using ASME standards.

  • Dimension parts in accordance with ASME Y14.5.

  • Write Basis of Estimates and create preliminary designs to capture new business.

  • Interface and receive inputs from multiple engineering disciplines and technical leads.

  • Provide guidance and tasks to junior engineers.

Basic Qualifications:
1.Current/active Secret clearance.
2.Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
3.14 years of related engineering experience.
4.Extensive CAD experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
1.Pro-E Creo CAD experience.
2.Experience working in the Defense industry.

VIEW JOBS 10/1/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-12-30T00:00 Careers that Change Lives As a member of the R&D Mechanical Engineering group in the Intensive Insulin Management business unit, the individual selected for this role will be responsible for product, process, and technology development activities of diabetes related products such as insulin pumps, glucose sensors, and related accessories. The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will play a significant role in the design, development, sustaining, Design and Process Characterization and Design Verification activities of diabetes products. The individual will have significant ability to influence manufacturing processes and technology development as new products are conceptualized. The person filling this role will become part of a dynamic and fast paced R&D group with a strong history of successful product development. They will have the opportunity to interface with vendors and end customer, as well as various functional groups within the diabetes business unit. The ideal candidate for this position has had experience in medical device design, development, design verification, and validation. This individual has experience in plastic part design as well as electromechanical assemblies. The ideal candidate has a strong background in process design and qualification including Test Method Validation (TMV). This individual has experience in medical devices and aptitude for taking customer feedback and product requirements translating them into meaningful engineering specifications and designs. A Day in the Life * Lead product and process development activities of diabetes management products. * Perform process characterization, design verification, and Test Method Validation (TMV) activities. * Develop and implement mechanical concept design, perform tolerance analysis, finite element analysis or other design analysis. Apply methodologies such as Design for Reliability and Manufacturing (DRM), Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturing Assembly (DFMA) and Cell Operating System (COS) during process design and development phase. * Drive corrective and preventive actions with appropriate and detailed follow up. * Works closely with strategic partners and vendors to support current products and initiate new production projects and assists in developing processes/techniques to meet contract objectives. * Travel to vendor locations and manufacturing sites as needed to help ensure programs meeting deadlines and troubleshoot issues. * Grow and maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to product development of diabetes devices and accessories. * Document results in reports and laboratory notebooks. * Design components to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion, and related processes. Work with manufacturing to consider high volume assembly processes in design concepts. * Help ensure designs meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards. * Provide technical feasibility assessments. * Translate voice of customer (VOC) feedback into engineering design requirements. * Help develop specifications, test methodologies, and test equipment to evaluate design concepts. * Perform calculations, analyses, and engineering testing to verify the designs. Document results in reports and laboratory notebooks. * Create and release engineering drawings, written procedures and Bill of Materials. * Process engineering change orders. * Work with suppliers to ensure components meet design requirements & diagnose design problems. * Collaborate with other departments within Medtronic on development projects. * Present technical findings or project status to cross functional teams and management through meeting minutes, design reviews, presentations and other means of communication. * Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems. * Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs. * May be responsible for the transfer from R&D to manufacturing.
