Bell recently formed a Rapid Prototyping (RP) organization. One of the primary responsibilities of the RP organization is to serve Bell's Innovation and Program teams by transforming their designs into concept demo air vehicles. Concept demo air vehicles include both clean-sheet and existing air vehicle modifications. Beyond that, the RP organization is responsible for fabrication of risk reduction test articles in support of concept demo air vehicle development. The RP organization is tasked with collaborating with design teams beginning at project inception to accelerate project execution by maximizing concurrency of air vehicle build planning / execution activity. The RP organization is comprised of three teams to fulfill the responsibilities outlined above. Those teams are: RP Onsite Manufacturing, RP Material, and RP Air Vehicle Build. This job requisition is for a position within the RP Air Vehicle Build Team and will report directly to the Air Vehicle Build Manager. The candidate who applies for this job requisition has responsibility to lead and/or perform the initiatives listed below:
Air Vehicle Build (AVB) Execution
AVB schedule creation / integration into engineering schedule to drive build activity predecessors
AVB sequencing establishment
BOM structure influence to maximize EBOM / MBOM agreement
AVB tooling / workaids required for assembly @ Bell
MRP demand establishment for all AVB content
AVB assembly producibility
Detail part and subassembly producibility for AVB level interfaces.
MFG work instruction creation / management for AVB @ Bell and as required at partners
Guide make/buy decisions
As required, supplier selection guidance of detail parts and subassemblies
As required, onsite liaison at suppliers
Engineering Partner oversight to ensure air vehicle physical interface requirements are met
Determination of floor space requirements for AVB execution.
Determination of infrastructure improvements required for AVB execution
Min/Max Bin establishment to support air vehicle requirements
Kitting of details for AVBs
Provide AVB build status reports
Develop budgetary requirements for AVBs
As required, utilization of V280 developed build management tools: EBOM Tracker & MPM
In executing the responsibilities listed above, the candidate is expected to apply advanced manufacturing technical principles, theories and concepts to the development of concept demo air vehicles. The candidate must possess expertise in multiple specialty and advanced manufacturing technical areas with proven project management oriented implementation skills.
BS in Engineering or related technical discipline and 15 years of experience in aerospace or related manufacturing industry experience or,
BS Engineering or related technical discipline and a MS or MBA/PhD and 14 years or experience in aerospace or related manufacturing industry experience
Able to identify and resolve safety and quality issues associated with activities, conditions, procedures, processes, facilities, equipment, etc. as they relate to design, certification, production, quality, continued operational safety, aircraft maintenance, or flight operations.
Able to coordinate cognizant design engineering and integrated operation teams to perform producibility analysis and manufacturing trade studies to determine cost effective / schedule critical solutions to complex manufacturing technical objectives.
Able to manage multiple projects supporting a single concept demo air vehicle build through a disciplined approach to initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing to achieve specific goals to specific success criteria.
Specialized mentor to junior and senior engineers in advanced concepts of manufacturing technology.
Expertise in multiple and knowledge of manufacturing technologies to include, but not limited to the following:
o Aero-structure Airframe design of metallic, non-metallic, machining, cutting tool, additive part fabrication and assembly manufacturing processes, equipment, tool integration, and product verification.
o Electrical and Mechanical Systems design, integration and installation manufacturing processes, tool integration, equipment, and product verification.
o Manufacturing Execution Systems - process specifications, CAD/CAM; production planning, material requirements scheduling, and material kitting and handling.
o Tool and Equipment Integration Facility requirements, ergonomics, safety, environmental, automation, robotics, metrology, tool & die fabrication, tool design methodology, determinant tooling & fixtures, loft practices, flat patterning, numerical controlled programing of equipment, tool cutting/addition technology applied to the fabrication and assembly of concept demo air vehicles.
Detailed knowledge of military and commercial aircraft systems.
Able to apply engineering design and analysis knowledge to evaluate discrepancies and anomalies.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office tools of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio and Outlook
Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology in Chemical, Systems, Computer, Industrial, Automation/Robotic, Aeronautical/Aviation, Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Environmental, and Materials
Extensive rapid product development experience.
CATIA V4, V5/V6 experience.
Experience with electronic product and project data in applications such as Enovia, CAMS, and Primavera.
Military or Commercial Program IPT leadership and/or experience leading cross-functional, and multi-cultural project teams.
