Staff Manager SDWAN Engineering

In this role, the Staff Manager of SDWANEngineering will lead an integrated team of engineers from backgrounds of ITinfrastructure, IP engineering, network planning and customer support. Thisteam has full stack ownership of Windstream's VMWare based SDWANinfrastructure.

The Staff manager will be responsible for Windstream'sVMWare based SDWAN infrastructure, thisincludes the compute and storage infrastructure as well as the appliation.

The Staff Manager will proactivelyanticipate, identify and analyze troublesome trends and will develop long-rangeplans designed to resolve problems and prevent them from recurring whilemaintaining a consistently high service level for our customers. Relationship management is critical in thisrole and the Staff manager will need to ensure accuracy and consistency in bothinternal and external communications. Inaddition this role will develop and present strategic plans and reviews,prepare and complete action plans, resolve problems and escalate issuesinternally and externally to drive performance standards.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and ensure maximum sustainedperformance and availability of Windstream's VMWare based SDWAN infrastruction.Perform ongoing preventive and corrective maintenance. Maximize the capacitiesthrough ongoing capacity planning. Adjust utilization to preclude overload.Oversee vendor involvement where applicable.

  • Manage system security through theinstallation and monitoring of appropriate systems, authentication mechanisms, patchingprograms and monitoring systems. Ensure appropriate security controls are inplace.

  • Respond to reports of system failure ordiminished performance. Promptly escalate issues to appropriate vendors or teammembers as required.

  • Mentor less experienced team members andfoster mentoring of less experienced engineers. Lead teams including someproject leadership for high priority projects.- Produce regular performance andcapacity summaries and status reports for senior management.

  • Ensure appropriate communication betweenteams to identify and/or work on ongoing issues to a resolution.

  • Ensure consistent document designs,standards, requirements, dashboard metrics, configuration items for theinfrastructure.

  • Maintain strong vendor relationships andoversight to ensure the success of outsourced services and implementations.Communicate corporate requirements and stay abreast of new technology andproduct enhancements.

  • Create pricing and selection ofcomponents, hardware, software and services required for projectimplementation. Submit and keep track of the purchase process. Coordinatevendor proposals for purchases of hardware, software, and technical services.

Education Requirements

  • BA/BS degree, or equivalent experience.

Experience and Skill Requirements
3 to 7 years relevant experience includingthe following is required:

  • Network Engineering leadership experiencewith an emphasis towards production support of carrier networks.

  • Solid knowledge compute and storagetechnologies

  • Solid understanding of SDWAN technolgies

  • Very strong and significant experiencewith routing and switching

  • Knowledge of security, virtualization,cloud computing, and software defined networking are required.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal andcommunication skills.

  • Action oriented, self-motivated, independent andability to lead.

Desired Qualifications:

College degree in Engineering or a related field and 8 years professional level experience with 2-3 years supervisory experience; or 12 years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience with 2-3 years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience desired.

Establishes work plan to be applied to a given project. Project Coordination: Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on complex projects. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
