SLR International Corporation is seeking an entry level Staff Geologist, Hydrogeologist, or Environmental Science with a minimum of 0 to 3 years of experience to join our Oakland, California operations. The selected candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, and provide technical leadership and knowledge to a wide range of clients and stakeholders. This role offers the opportunity to work on a number of projects, including closed mining sites, landfills, sediment impacted sites, and municipalities, and will provide hands-on experience interacting with clients. Preferred candidates will have a strong, relevant academic background and a desire to work in environmental consulting. The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's of Science in Geology, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Sciences.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology, Hydrology or Environmental Sciences required (preference given to Geology/Hydrology degrees)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software

  • Possess current driver's license

  • Ability to travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of soil and rock properties

  • Knowledge of the hydrological cycle and related quantitative analysis

  • Understanding of soil and groundwater remediation (e.g., methods, chemistry)

  • Understanding of field work tasks such as soil sampling, groundwater sampling, borehole logging, well installation, soil-vapor sampling, soil and groundwater remediation, site reconnaissance, and subcontractor oversight

  • Ability to contribute to the development of technical documents

  • Excellent technical writing skills

  • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, conceptual site models, and technical reports

  • Focus on team project delivery, taking direction primarily from Project Managers

  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments

  • Prepare cost estimates for site investigations and remediation

  • Utilize geologic data to design monitoring and remediation wells

  • Provide construction oversight on environmental remediation projects, and operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems

  • Coordinate and direct drilling, surveying, and laboratory services

  • Conduct field work, including soil, sediment, aquifer testing, drilling oversight and soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation, well development, construction oversight, and groundwater and surface water sampling

  • Perform Phase I and II environmental assessments to support property transactions

  • Willingness to assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations

  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities

The individual in this position will be responsible for providing a high level of support to clients and the consultants in the Environmental and Earth Sciences Practice involving geologic and hydrogeologic analyses for the evaluation of groundwater resources, contaminant transport and fate, environmental forensics, and remedial actions. Responsibilities for this position include: * Hydrogeological analyses to support evaluations of water resources, water rights, and interactions between surface water and groundwater * Evaluation of contaminant transport and fate using analytical and numerical models * Analyses of environmental forensics, remedial actions, and groundwater resources, potentially including the development of conceptual models and the construction of geologic/hydrogeologic cross sections, contaminant maps, etc. * Supporting multidisciplinary project teams on complex, challenging problems * Pursuit of professional development, including conference presentations and journal publications, to improve professional visibility * Developing client relationships Qualifications for this position include: * Ph.D. in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geologic Engineering, or Civil Engineering * 5 – 7 years of consulting experience is preferred * Expertise in geology, hydrogeology, and contaminant transport-and-fate analyses, including demonstrated experience with MODFLOW, MT3D, and related models * Familiarity with California's Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and the Integrated Water Flow Model (IWFM) is preferred but not required * Strong and efficient capabilities for constructing, calibrating (e.g., using PEST), and operating large numerical models and processing model output. * Must have current professional licensure or desire to obtain professional licensure * Project management experience including tracking of milestones and deliverables * Strong interest in career and professional development within a dynamic consulting environment * Must have strong technical skills as shown by project experience and/or publication record * Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required * Excellent communication, organization, and writing skills * Must be detail oriented, able to work independently, and manage time effectively * Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines * Exposure to sensitive information will necessitate considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment We are an Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, Veterans and Disabled Employer.
