Successful candidates will join a team of Fire Protection Engineers who work on a wide range of exciting and challenging projects including manufacturing and food processing facilities, mission critical facilities, aerospace manufacturing plants, airports, aircraft storage and maintenance hangars, central utility plants, industrial and petroleum processing sites, educational and cultural facilities, and more. You'll be working in team environments with a premium placed on client and peer to peer interaction.
Job duties will include:
Designing and specifying fire suppression systems on a wide variety of project types. This will include wet-pipe, dry-pipe, preaction, and deluge sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and storage tanks.
Designing and specifying special fire suppression systems such as foam, water spray, water mist, clean agent, wet/dry chemical, and carbon dioxide fire suppression systems.
Designing and specifying fire alarm systems, mass notification systems, and releasing systems. Performing hydraulic calculations and working with outside resources to incorporate special hazard systems.
Performing building code and life safety analysis.
Preparation of comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke evacuation, and life safety.
Application of sound fire protection engineering principles to assist in troubleshooting and solving client related problems.
Resolving design related installation issues with field personnel.
Review of existing buildings for compliance with applicable building code and life safety codes.
Review of hazardous materials, design and analysis of building egress and passive fire protection systems.
Review of contractor shop drawings, field inspections, and testing and commissioning reports.
Assisting in the construction and commissioning of designed systems.
Other Duties as assigned
Candidates must have a Bachelor's of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from an ABET accredited university or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering with a BS in a related engineering field from an ABET accredited university.
Minimum 3 years related experience (completion of master's degree in fire protection engineering may be substituted for one year of experience).
Professional Engineering Licensure in Fire Protection Engineering through NCEES preferred.
Consulting experience, NICET certification, and Certified Fire Protection Specialist accreditation is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
Knowledge and application of performance based design and FDS modeling is a plus.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients, including, but not limited to DOE, aerospace, military, food and consumer product manufacturers, pharmaceutical, laboratories, and others.
