Kelaca is looking for a Mid-Level Engineer/Scientist Consultant to work in a Hybrid capacity for a long term engagement with our client partner in Raleigh, NC for their Algorithms, Modeling, and Assessments Division (AMA). As part of our client’s AMA team, you will be developing and improving a weapon effects software architecture for advanced physics-based software development and making quality production software at all stages of software lifecycle.

Local Candidates to the Raleigh area only – Candidate will need to be on-site initially through onboarding, and is able to transition to more work from home with demonstrated high productivity, task understanding, and proficiency with the code base.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support development of their system, including:
    • Integration of M&S physics-based weapon effects models into an established Java framework.
    • Data processing including post-processing and documentation of model results.
    • Verification and validation
    • Working with Agile teams
    • Working directly with their customers, other contractors, and other Company teams to cross-integrate capabilities.
    • Working on data visualization and verification, including writing reports: This may include visualization of data.
      • Candidate will need to be able to understand the effects being modeled and validated.
      • Candidate will need to be able to execute simulations and document results.
    • Day to day – Pulling logs and seeing what failed and fixed it, update code drops and integrate, code reviews, verifications. Standup and software development environment. Overall looking into problems and coming up solutions.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Master’s Degree with 3-5 years of related work experience (Preferably PhD with 0-2 years of work experience) in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil), Physics, or similar – but not computer science/programming.
  • Experience with, or developing, algorithms and physics-based models.
  • Java programming skills for Linux and Windows Systems
    • Some experience with Java required
    • Engineers in this role typically grow to lead teams and present to customers, but the candidate still must be able to handle the day-to-day work of integrating software and writing code.
      • Ability to communicate (oral, in writing, and in presentation form) is critical in this position.

Preferred Skills

  • Ph.D with 0-2 years of experience in engineering or similar field
  • Any knowledge of Fortran
  • Experience with Linux OS, compiling and developing for, or on, Linux,
    • Most development work can be performed on Windows, and then transitioned to Linux.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Agile teams
  • Experience with developments tools like Git, Eclipse/IntelliJ, Visual Studio, and JIRA
  • True problem solver with a drive to find solutions to technical challenges.

Other Desirable Skills

  • Experience in C++ is highly desired, but not required
  • Experience with automated testing, both in your development workflow and through CI/CD
  • Current active security clearance
  • Experience with related DOD software systems and models
  • Experience developing and depoloying to DoD IA requirements
  • Knowledge of nuclear weapons effects and a background of scientific programming

Security Clearance Requirements:

The projects that will be assigned involve government work and US Citizenship is required. Selected applicant will be subject to a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and obtain a Top Secret DoD security Clearance. No foreign nationals, no recent bankruptcies or debt in collections, no candidates with family, spouse, or spouses’ family who are unwilling to partake in the security clearance process, etc.

Hours of Work: Monday-Friday; 8am-5pm

FLSA Exemption Status: Exempt
