The Staff Engineer is a full-time entry-level professional who will assist with work on a variety of transportation projects under direct supervision of an experienced professional. A Staff Engineer in the traffic department will focus on developing skills with engineering and design software, particularly AutoCAD, Microstation, Synchro, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel. The Staff Engineer is also responsible for written tasks including the preparation of Traffic Impact Studies, Road Safety Audits, and other technical reports. They will work with Project Engineers to apply engineering concepts more broadly and develop skills for working more independently. The ideal candidate would have the flexibility to work out of the Boston, MA, Taunton, MA, or Lincoln, RI offices.
Complete data collection, field reviews, traffic engineering analyses, conceptual design, roadway design
Assist in the preparation or modification of reports, design plans, specifications, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and permits for projects
Use AutoCAD 3D Civil and other computer assisted engineering and design software/equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Experience utilizing AutoCAD a plus.
Draft transmittals, memos, meeting minutes, proposals and response letters
Develop and maintain organized project files
Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects as necessary
Coordinate with technical staff as necessary
Perform field reviews for projects within the region to collect a variety of field data.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Basic oral and written communication skills
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to present to Supervisors
Organizational skills and attention to detail
Knowledge of HCS, Synchro, AutoCAD 3D Civil, and Microsoft Office
Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university
Relevant internship or 0-5 years of experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in the field and may be exposed to outside weather conditions. Work requires frequent and prolonged computer use. May occasionally require lifting up to 25 pounds.
This position may risk exposure to bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
This is a full-time position. The typical work days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some night and weekend work may be required.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
