CA Pay Range (Annual):

  • At Infinera, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. Your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for equity grants, discretionary bonuses, or commission payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company's incentive plans, the Company's financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.

"This position requires direct or indirect access to certain confidential information, hardware, software, technology, or technical information (referred to here as "Export-Controlled Information") controlled under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All personnel in this position must be eligible to or be able to obtain authorization from the appropriate agency to access applicable Export-Controlled Information. The U.S. Department of Commerce currently requires a foreign person with a most recent citizenship or permanent residency of Sudan, Ukraine, or a country currently designated in Country Group D:1, E:1 or E:2 (Supplement No. 1 to Part 740, Title 15) to have an export control license to access our Export-Controlled Information, unless they meet certain exemptions provided under U.S. export control laws and regulations. The list of applicable countries in Country Group D:1, E:1 or E:2 may be updated by the U.S. government from time to time. The current processing time for an export control license is approximately 4 to 6 months.

Your employment or engagement with Infinera shall be contingent on verifying your eligibility or requirement for obtaining a necessary license and/or authorization from the appropriate agency. You will be required to provide certain information for export control compliance assessment purposes, and your information will be reviewed by Infinera's hiring and export control teams to ensure compliance with the U.S. export control laws and regulations. Staff Engineer, PIC Wafer Fabrication- Thin Films

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

  • Develop, qualify, release and optimize wafer fabrication processes, with a concentration on thin-film deposition for existing and new technology generations.

  • Improve existing processes of record in the Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) wafer fab.

  • Execute projects to improve yield, PIC performance, and process control.

  • Support hardware and process roadmap to enable next-generation PICs that meet customer's roadmap requirements. Deploy advanced thin-film deposition techniques to enable future PIC technology generations with enhanced performance and reliability.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy control plans to keep thin-film deposition processes operating within allowed performance parameters.

  • Troubleshoot wafer fabrication process problems and drive details of improvement project execution to enable a smooth flow of production and development wafers in the fab.

  • Execute process development in wafer fabrication process modules, with a focus on atomic layer deposition (ALD) to enable future PIC technology generations.

  • Participate on various cross functional teams to improve yields, solve process problems, simplify procedures and processes, and release new tools and processes with improved capacity and capability.

  • Work in partnership with the PIC Line Integration team to drive manufacturing engineering projects and sustaining efforts related to thin film deposition technology.

  • Work in partnership with the PIC R&D team to define, develop, and qualify new thin film deposition processes required to deliver new high-performance multi-Tb PICs.

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • JMP, DOE, SPC and their application to semiconductor manufacturing

  • Working knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes, and expertise in photo-lithography, etch, deposition, and related processes.

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with semiconductor process development and new process introduction.

  • Experience consistent with supporting an operations team, writing and training of fab procedures, root cause analysis and problem resolution.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Technical depth in aspects thin-film deposition tools used for semiconductor manufacturing, for example, physical vapor deposition, evaporation, plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, and atomic layer deposition. 5 years' experience in broad aspects of semiconductor wafer fabrication.

  • Clear communication of problems, challenges, and leadership in deploying solutions.

  • A working knowledge and experience from path-finding through release to production. Ability to partner with integration engineering and development teams on the wafer fab engineering roadmap for PIC technology

  • Compound semiconductor background a plus

Education/Experience Required:

BS with 5 years' experience, or MS with 3 years' experience, or Ph.D. with 0-2 years' experience in one of these Engineering disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering.
