Otis has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer responsible for adapting sensing technologies and products to elevator and escalator systems.
The sensor technology engineer will identify sensor technologies that can be integrated into elevator and escalator products to aid or enhance control, diagnostic, and prognostic functions. This position will partner closely with electrical and software engineers to integrate the sensors into component and system designs. The sensor technology engineer will also identify sensing technology candidates by working closely with data analytic teams to understand the data quality and quantity requirements as a function of use case.
Identification of sensor technologies and sensor modules than can support or enhance elevator or escalator functions.
Work with the data analytics team to understand data requirements for various functions and use cases. Identify sensing technology options to support data analytic requirements.
Partner with electronic and software engineers to define requirements supporting product development and design with the use of different sensor technologies.
Support cost/benefit analyses for various sensor technologies and use cases.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
Experience and knowledge of various commercial sensor technologies (ex: pressure, vibration/accelerometers, optical, magnetic, etc.) including their potential use, capabilities, and application in systems.
Understanding of the basic physics for how various sensors work.
Experience with development of sensor requirements for application and integration into systems.
Experience in completing a cost/benefit analysis to aid in the selection, integration, and application of appropriate sensor technologies.
Specifying design requirements for the application of sensor technologies in various use cases and data analytics.
Specifying analog and digital filtering designs in support of data analytic requirements.
Integrating sensors with low power microcontrollers to achieve designs targeting lowest power requirements including low power wireless standards and message protocols
Hands on lab experience with electronic sensor circuits and test equipment to support test, integration, and troubleshooting.
Understanding of basic cybersecurity requirements and mitigation mechanisms
Demonstrated ability to work closely with electronic and software engineers to develop plans for the application of sensor technologies.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals and/or teams at all levels and disciplines.
