We have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Engineer with Motor Control expertise at our General Atomics Systems Integration (GA-SI) group in Kaysville, UT. With limited direction, this position will provide technical oversight of aircraft systems electrical engineering design and development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides expert guidance and leadership to professional staff members working on difficult engineering problems.

  • Provides electrical motor control engineering services in support of aircraft modifications, system improvements, test systems, and structures.

  • Leads development of solutions from concept, requirement development, design, analysis to prototype and qualification testing

  • Develops solutions in accordance with company and aerospace-industry requirements.

  • Utilizes past experience with electrical motor control and power control to develop solution(s) to advanced technical engineering problems.

  • Develops and provides oversight of electrical hardware functional diagrams, electrical schematics, and electrical circuit designs in collaboration with mechanical and systems engineers.

  • Performs electrical circuit simulations and system modeling simulations utilizing software tools such as Matlab, Simulink, and Altium.

  • Formulates, plans, and guides the development and implementation of engineering solution(s) including deployment, resource requirements, testing, documentation, integration and compliance and safety.

  • Ensures that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed.

  • Develops or reviews engineering deliverables.

  • Participates in proposal efforts and assists in the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities.

  • Develops Statements of Work and supports engineering labor estimates.

  • Communicates effectively and professionally in all interactions through both written and verbal methods.

  • Provides focal point for technical communication within the Company management and may represent the Company as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies.

  • Plans, coordinates, and develops engineering solutions including, documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations.

  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of General Atomics. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance is required

  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise in motor control and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.

  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals, and capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.

  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.

  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.

With some direction, this position determines and provides quality oversight objectives of software development and will modify, apply the objectives, and maintain standards for software quality operating methods, processes, systems and procedures. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide software quality engineering support throughout a software development life cycle meeting aerospace industry standards for planning, development, validation and verification activities * Provide support for software development projects with oversight/inspection and review/approval of software deliverables: * Software Development, Quality Assurance, Configuration Management, Verification and Validation Plans * Work products associated with Requirements Based Engineering development * Software Architectural and Design Documents * Change Management and Peer Reviews * Test procedures, Requirement Traceability Matrices, Records, Summary Reports and Metrics * Participate in software risk management process throughout the entire software lifecycle * Identify and make recommendations for improvements to the Software Quality Assurance company practices * Assist in the development and delivery of training to employees on principles of software development and related life cycle processes and data * Responsible for managing escalating potential process issues and risks to management, own corrective action and reporting process * Develop overall operating criteria to ensure implementation of the software quality program according to project, process and contract requirements and objectives. * Experience with object oriented C/C++ and applies understanding of Assembly for embedded and driver development. * Participate in a team environment executing full lifecycle software development, for software quality of requirements, design, code, test, maintenance, and integrating real-time embedded software for aerospace applications. * Communicate with domain experts, users, and management executing in an aerospace industry regulatory environment through the software development lifecycle. * Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information. * Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
