In this role, you will be responsible for the technical direction of product design and product improvement projects. This includes planning, specification creation, compliance to specification evaluations, coordination of design and development projects, and representation of electrical design at project-team level. This position requires technical innovation as well as a high level of technical skill in the areas of design, analysis, development, and testing of new products and components. You will be accountable for electrical architectural application and discovery in the area of electronics, control, human machine interface, and system integration.
Present and maintain project electrical development process and Gate milestones to platform teams.
Prepare project, technical, cost, and other reports to show project progress as required.
Conduct/attend Technical Design Reviews, Failure Mode and Effect Analyses, etc., and contribute sound professional opinion, creative ideas, concepts, and approaches to new product design and development projects.
Apply innovation/screening tools to technology options.
Determine the electrical application feasibility of new product concepts. Prepare detailed project plans; including technical objectives and approaches, design specifications, test specifications, schedule plans, project cost estimates, and product cost analyses.
Personally, and with key suppliers, carry out in-depth design and development work of an advanced and complex nature, involving high-speed digital and analog circuit design.
Direct and coordinate all work by supplier engineers, support personnel, and outside groups involving design, development, drafting, prototype construction, and test and evaluation of product concepts. Work closely with project groups to assure smooth transition to product development.
Mentor less-senior engineers and technical support personnel in technical areas as required.
Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical or electromechanical) required, with a master's degree in engineering or business administration preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience with steadily increasing responsibility as an engineer.
Preferred experience with:
Automotive Tier One
Appliance design and development, mechanism design
