Kulicke and Soffa, the pioneer and market leader in ball bonding, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to help push the limits of what's possible in motion and process control performance for its ball bonder products. You will develop the power electronics that drive K&S's proprietary servo motors, actuators, and transducers.

  • Develop power electronics and controls for motors, actuators, and transducers including servo drive, discrete power amplifier, and power supply design

  • Multilayer PCB design and verification using Altium Designer

  • High-flex cable design for interconnecting bonder systems using Zuken E3.cable

  • Support CE safety and emissions compliance and testing

  • Collaborate with other mechatronics team members to develop new concepts and adapt existing controls for new bonder platforms

  • Coordinate production release of PCB and cable designs via Siemens Teamcenter

  • Generate specifications and documentation for new designs

  • Perform bring-up, troubleshooting, and debugging of new designs and field issues

  • Experience with PMSM motor control hardware design including high-frequency switching, 3-phase bridges, gate drivers, and current sense

  • Working knowledge of field-oriented control

  • Experience with linear and switching discrete power amplifier design

  • Experience with thermal management including heatsink and forced air cooling specifications and testing

  • Experience with PCB design and layout that minimizes radiated/conducted emissions

  • Experience with Altium Designer is a plus

  • Experience with signal and power cable design including shielding and high-flex applications

  • Experience with Zuken E3.cable is a plus

  • Experience with DC/DC converter design including buck, boost, and isolated flyback and forward topologies

  • Experience with transformer and inductor magnetic design is a plus

  • Experience with analog and mixed-signal circuit design including op-amps, sensors, A/D and D/A converters, I2C, SPI, and RS-422/485

  • Experience with CE regulatory compliance testing

  • Experience working with hardware designs containing FPGAs, DSPs, and microcontrollers

  • Familiar with using general lab equipment such as digital oscilloscopes, active/differential probes, and current probes in environments with high switching noise

Required Education

  • BSEE with minimum 5 years experience, MS/PHD EE with minimum 3 years experience
