The Position:

The Staff DevOps Engineer is a key member and leader of the Clinical Decision Support product engineering team responsible for designing, implementing, administering and supporting complex, secure mission-critical products and services.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Use technical analysis to assess the scalability and reliability of the engineering infrastructure

  • Design, implement, manage and orchestrate Docker Container Clusters using Orchestration Engines like native Kubernetes, Swarm, EKS

  • Design and build Docker Files, Amazon AMI's

  • Design new strategies for optimizing all aspect of the certification, CI, release, and deployment processes using the latest container and virtualization techniques

  • Help lead the transformation to modern DevOps by leveraging the latest cutting-edge technologies

  • Provide world-class customer service for requests from all stakeholders and customers including; software development, QA, sustaining and project management. Typical requests will cover CI/CD systems, Infra monitoring, and troubleshooting

  • Engage with software development, QA and project management teams to prepare for customization or enhancements required to support frequent cloud releases

  • Provide recommendations to monitor and improve our engineering infrastructure

  • Drive improvements of tools used for continuous integration, automated testing and diagnostics, and release management

  • Identify issues, collaborate with stakeholders on solutions and provide follow-up on the implementation

  • Drive the change to a DevOps culture

Your Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, or related field.

  • 8+ years of progressive hands-on experience in the DevOps, SRE functions doing large scale development with cloud technologies. AWS experience preferred

  • Experience in overall areas in DevOps including CI/CD with build & release, Internal tooling, and production operations.

  • Experience automating using infrastructure as code: AWS Cloudformation, Terraform or AWS Python/Boto API (or equivalent).

  • Hands-on automation development using configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef or Saltstack.

  • Hands-on System Administration experience with Unix based systems including experience with system configuration and networking (DNS, DHCP, rout tables and routing).

  • Scripting experience using bash/shell, python, ruby or similar languages.

  • Extensive working experience with modern container technologies; Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, EKS, ECS or equivalent

  • Proficiency with log monitoring and analytics using solutions like Splunk, ELK

  • Experience using APIs, microservices and other REST technologies

  • Installation, Configuration, and management of NGINX or similar technologies

  • Experience with version control and build management tools, e.g. git, Github, Gitlab.

  • Experience in Linux, Windows

  • Experience with the Atlassian toolset JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, Bitbucket

  • In-depth experience with modern CI/CD pipelines and the common components and services typically used with these pipelines

  • Bitbucket, Gitlab, Github, Jenkins, Bamboo, Docker, Kubernetes, Vault credential management, Artifactory, test automation platform
  • Be part of on-call rotation and help resolve production issues

Nice to Have:

  • Security experience in a healthcare tech setting

  • Experience with the design & administration of highly available engineering environments.

  • Experience working with Big Data and data visualization

  • Experience working with virtualization technology. (VMWare, OpenStack)

Patient data security and privacy are of the highest priority for Roche. In this context, Roche is building a specialized Switzerland and California based team that builds and operates a cloud platform for its medical and clinical SaaS products. This team will be responsible for tackling the cyber-security, compliance, and DevOps challenges of the healthcare industry while enabling high-velocity product development. The DevOps Engineer will be an integral member of this team providing implementation and support for cloud technologies, tooling and the CI/CD pipeline that build the foundation of the platform. As a DevOps Engineer, you will * Actively interface with software developers, security operations engineers, product managers, operations managers on projects. * Perform capacity planning, automation, testing, performance tuning, user management of platform tools. * Develop and maintain the continuous integration and continuous delivery pipeline. * Provide on-call support for the platform tooling. * Collaborate with the DevOps teams of the SaaS products built on the platform to resolve incidents and implement changes quickly and efficiently. * Collaborate with the cyber-security team to integrate security measures into all aspects of the platform tools. * Work with technical project managers, product owners, and peers to set priorities and track operational metrics. * Participate in planning, system demos, and inspect & adapt events. * Drive and coordinate platform adoption, actively engaging product development, quality, regulatory, and customer success teams. Experience working in a multicultural environment and proven cultural awareness. Furthermore, you bring: * 5+ years of experience in a systems engineering/DevOps role * Experience with configuration management, monitoring, and systems tools (e.g. Ansible, SumoLogic, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.). * Proficiency with source control, continuous integration and testing methods (Git, GitLab, Jenkins) * Candidate must have demonstrated a strong knowledge of Linux systems and internals (Ubuntu/Alpine preferred) * Experience in creating software to automate production systems with one of the following languages: Python, Ruby, Java, Go, etc. Python experience is preferred. * Experience with Amazon Web Services * Good understanding of networking and related protocols. Must have a strong understanding of fundamentals (HTTP, DNS, TLS) * Candidate must have demonstrated experience in troubleshooting problems and working with a team to resolve web-scale production issues. * Understanding of cloud provisioning tools, e.g. CloudFormation and Terraform. * Knowledge of docker/container technologies and orchestration (Kubernetes). * Good understanding of database technologies * Experience working with cloud-based technologies (CloudFlare CDN, Qualys WAS is highly desirable).
