The Staff Development Director is a Registered Nurse who manages all aspects of the Staff Education department. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, developing and assisting with nursing and facility educational programming in accordance with current and applicable federal, state and local regulations. The Director will supervise staff educators within the department.
Full time, 40 hour per week Exempt position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain established educational models reflecting the mission, vision, and values of the facility.
Responsible for orientation and ongoing education of all staff, both for department-specific and facility-wide education.
Collaborates with all departments in planning, organizing and implementing educational programs and developing educational resources.
Identifies essential competencies for licensed and non-licensed staff within all departments and assures appropriate educational opportunities exist to promote the growth and development of staff.
Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the Staff Education programs.
Fosters departmental and interdisciplinary team building. Promotes team morale and productivity.
Schedules and coordinates annual mandatory learning sessions for all nursing facility personnel to include but not limited to: Resident Rights, Abuse and Neglect, Reporting of Criminal Acts, Dementia Training, HIPPAA, Fire Safety, and Exposure Control, etc.
Plan and publish a monthly In-service calendar
Hold classes in order to instruct nursing staff in new or revised nursing procedures
Participates in curriculum development and selects appropriate teaching strategies.
Engages employees through active learning using principles of adult learning.
Monitors the effectiveness/outcomes of educational programs.
Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, and in-service records.
Assist in orientation of new nurses and nursing students
Manage the approved Nursing Assistant Training program and submit approval forms as required by the state agency
Assist with teaching the Nursing Assistant training program according to OBRA mandates
Supervise classroom and clinical activities of Nursing Assistants
Offer continuous review of Nursing Assistant skills in both formal classroom and informal clinical setting
Evaluate Nursing Assistant performance
Review CNA state certification applications and renewal
Oversee preceptor program in the Nursing Department
Oversee proper use, care and instruction of mechanical lifting/transferring equipment
Participate in following committees: safety, quality assurance, infection control and others as requested and to chair the nursing procedures committee
Work with Maintenance Department to coordinate safety program including, fire safety, natural disaster preparation, ongoing inspection of building for potential dangers, current education of staff on safety issues
Investigate all employee accidents and promote prevention of similar occurrences through appropriate recommendations and/or interventions
Co-ordinate modified duty program for employees returning to work in conjunction with the Worker's Compensation Department
Participates in the development, revision and communication of facility policies and procedures.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed as Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
5 or more years of experience in working in a healthcare facility with 3 or more years working in long term care.
2 or more years of experience as a staff nurse or charge nurse in which administrative, supervisory and leadership abilities have been demonstrated.
Effective management of time and schedule constraints is necessary.
