The Staff Counselor-Outreach Focus reports to the Assistant Director of the Counseling and Psychological Services Center (CAPS). The primary job functions are to serve the clinical needs of the TU campus community through direct provision of mental health services and provision of prevention services via outreach efforts on campus. This Counselor will specifically focus on prevention services through outreach events and programming (e.g. Mental Health First Aid, QPR, substance abuse awareness, eating disorder awareness, interpersonal violence, etc.). It is important that this position has passion and focus related to community education and training supporting the overall mission of CAPS to serve mental health concerns of the TU community. Outreach programming includes student, faculty, staff and the other constituents of the broader TU community. Some of the expected outreach services include providing trainings, workshops, psychoeducational presentations as well as targeted outreach groups, programing, and events provided to TU students, faculty, staff and prospective students. Some of the expected clinical services include individual, couples, and group forms of therapeutic intervention. Additionally, providing psycho-educational programming, coverage for crisis response including after hours on call coverage, outcome assessment, and the supervision of trainees providing clinical services.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:

  • Carries clinical case load providing therapy services to TU students including individuals, couples, group, skill based groups, psychological assessments, and after hours on call rotation.

  • Participates in supervising and training of graduate-level psychology students

  • Serves in appropriate university committees and teams to advocate, support, and improve student support in service of student success

  • Provides psychoeducational programming for the TU community to enhance general knowledge of mental health related issues (e.g., disordered eating habits, substance use/misuse/abuse, suicide, self-harm, emotion regulation, stress management, health relationships)

  • Fields calls and requests from various TU departments and offices (e.g., Campus Security, Housing, Dean of Students Office, the Center for Student Academic Support, etc.) for outreach programming requests

  • Helps coordinate and design assessments and data tracking processes to record outreach activity and assess effectiveness of outreach efforts (outcome measures) within TU community

  • Develops strategies and future growth areas to improve wellness and wellbeing in alignment with TU strategic initiatives and student success goals

  • Obtains and maintains necessary certifications including MHFA and behavioral health provider license

  • Continues professional development including applicable conferences and trainings

  • Participates in CAPS staff meetings, case consultations and trainings

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited program in a mental health field, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or social work; two years of experience.

  • Eligibility for licensure within one year of hire

  • Demonstrated skills through training and supervised experience in intervention.

  • Techniques for prevention and treatment of concerns in areas of adaptive coping, interpersonal and academic functioning, anxiety, depression, crisis management, referrals/consultations High attention to detail, demonstrated practice of establishing effective priorities and meeting deadlines.

  • Open to learning best practices in working with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and/or international students.

  • Knowledge of compliance with professional laws and ethics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program

  • Licensure as a Health Service Psychologist in the state of Oklahoma

  • Two years providing mental health services to students in an educational environment.
