Staff Consultant Structural Analysis

What you'll do:

  • Senior level aerospace structural engineer leading the structural verification effort on a large advanced satellite hardware program which may include spacecraft, instruments, precision mechanisms, optical systems, and ground support equipment.

  • Take responsibility for all phases of structural verification effort including requirements definition, program planning and tracking, structural analysis, structural testing, and requirement verification.

  • Provide direct interaction with customer and upper management and communicate at high levels.

  • Provide technical direction and mentoring to large structural analysis team in the areas of detail stress analysis using closed form and finite element analysis techniques, structural dynamics, loads analysis (including random vibration, acoustics, sine and jitter), preparation of detailed engineering analysis reports, development of structural test requirements, and supporting structural and vibration testing.

  • Conceive and develop solutions to engineering problems through the application of professionally and industry-wide accepted engineering techniques, practices and procedures. Ensure that engineering work conforms to high technical and company standards and meets or exceeds all contract requirements.

  • Ensure the producibility of designs and products. Compile and evaluate design and data to determine adequacy and completeness of the product or software and the engineering effectiveness of the results compared to requirements and specifications. May be responsible for tracking performance against costs, budgets, and schedules.

  • Design, develop and modify applications, and or software systems, components, processes, and devices according to specifications.

  • Analyze, evaluate and recommend innovative solutions/applications and/or software design approaches required for meeting contract specifications for new or modified products and systems.

  • Compile and prepare necessary data and engineering items to support technical meetings and end-item product delivery.

  • May review drawings, procedures and engineering orders for completeness, compatibility, producibility, and correctness.

  • May organize, analyze, write and present technical marketing and proposal information for program managers and customers.

  • Should be able to work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Be able to provide and communicate understanding of both the technical and programmatic aspects of a project to the team as well as the customer.

  • Promote development of a strong team by participation in key aspects of the project and mentoring more junior team members.

  • May work with classified documents which requires thorough knowledge of DoD procedures for the proper usage and safeguarding of classified information.

  • Maintain and update required records and reports.

  • Present and resolve any technical program difficulties or discrepancies with the team, customers, and subcontractors in a timely manner.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What you'll need:

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 16 or more years related experience.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • SCI/SSBI clearance is preferred.

  • Coursework in statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and linear algebra is required.

  • Experience performing structural analysis of aerospace-related hardware including stress analysis and structural dynamics.

  • A demonstrated ability to organize and lead large aerospace structural analysis efforts is required.

  • Good interpersonal skills, high level communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are essential.

  • Proficiency in the use of NASTRAN finite element analysis including static, modal, frequency response, dynamic reduction, non-linear analysis, and DMAP programming is required.

  • Proficiency in the use of IDEAS MasterSeries, NX or similar finite element pre/post processing software is required.

  • Previous experience in the following areas is preferred: structural analysis to support controls, optics, electronics, mechanisms, bond analysis, composites and other non-traditional materials.

  • Previous experience with the following analysis tools is preferred: Adams, Ansys, Mechanica.

  • Programming experience with MATLAB or at least one other scientific programming language is preferred.

  • Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks is preferred.

  • Proficiency with MS Office tools is required,

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

The Forensic Engineer (Civil Structural) is primarily focused on traveling to perform on-site data collection and investigative services and delivering a written report of observations, findings and conclusions to the client. Donan's Forensic Engineer (Civil – Structural) are responsible for: * Providing expert forensic analysis to clients on an array of multi-disciplined engineering projects, with an unbiased and honest conclusion. * Writing & submitting detailed and accurate reports on completed projects in a timely manner. * Communicating and documenting communication with customers to provide timelines and project updates. * Providing expert testimony and/or depositions as needed on projects in which they have been assigned. * Being available and flexible with their schedule to accommodate additional hours during periods of peak business demand, and backlog as deemed necessary. * Providing excellent customer service to company internal and external customers. * Proactively pursuing additional training and mentoring opportunities, licenses, education, and/or certification (which are covered in cost by Donan). Qualified candidates should have the following to qualify for this position: * Actively registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state in which they are applying. (Multiple active state P.E. licenses are preferred but not required). * Have an active NCEES record or be eligible to obtain within six months of employment. * Minimum of a bachelor's degree in related engineering field: civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical. * Experience in design, construction, analysis and technical writing are highly preferred. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Have superior customer service skills, be team oriented and enjoy service-oriented work. * Have strong technical writing abilities with experience using Microsoft Word and proficient with general computer skills. * Ability to meet all standards for pre-employment physical examination.
