Albany Law School seeks a Staff Attorney to work in the Health Law Clinic at The Edward P. Swyer Justice Center, where they will provide legal advocacy services and direct representation to clients and perform other related duties. Specifically, conducts client intake and expedites emergency client intake, supervises law interns at client meetings and confers with and assists clinic students and Director in providing direct representation, counseling, technical assistance, referrals and advice to Health Law Clinic clients and partner agencies. The Health Law Clinic's legal practice includes the following substantive areas: Social Security Disability; Last Wills and Testaments; Powers of Attorney and Health Care Proxies; Medicaid and Private Insurance Coverage; Family Court Custody, Neglect, and Standby Guardianships; Disability Discrimination; and Public Benefits.
Appointment will be as Associate Staff Attorney, Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney, depending on experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent lawyering skills, specifically-client counseling, and oral advocacy.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent legal research skills and analysis.
Strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability using Microsoft Office Suite products, Lexis and Westlaw.
Qualification Standards:
Juris Doctor from an ABA approved law school.
Admission to the New York Bar.
Two or more years of practical legal experience in the area of Health Law and familiarity with New York Family Court practice preferred.
Valid driver's license.

Compensation: The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000-$85,000 per year, plus comprehensive benefits package. Salary offered will be based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, and in consideration of internal equity. Comprehensive benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, retirement plan with 5% retirement contribution, employer paid life insurance and disability coverage and generous paid time off (PTO, volunteer time off, holidays and parental leave). We are a Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligible employer.
