Staff Attorney 15/16 - Employment: Health, Education, And Family Services Division

A staff attorney in the Health, Education & Family Services Division is expected to regularly handle routine legal assignments.  On occasion, a staff attorney may handle some legal assignments that are more complex with a number of variables.

 The employee is expected to keep clients and supervisors aware as to the status of all matters they are handling.  The staff attorney, under the supervision of their supervisor, drafts formal and informal legal opinions and provides legal representation to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service, the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement and Potential, and the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, as well as agencies, commissions, boards and staff within these Departments.  The legal representation includes administrative proceedings and civil litigation in both state and federal courts, including appellate courts.  It also includes representation of state officials and employees.

Position Description

Education

Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.

Experience

Attorney-Staff P15

No specific type or amount is required.

Attorney-Senior 16

Four years of post-bar admission legal experience.

Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications

Membership in good standing in the Michigan State Bar
