Job Description:
OFFICIAL TITLE: Staff Associate- Counselor, Multicultural Specialist, Counseling Services ( 10-month position)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Counseling
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise student-employees, as assigned

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Staff Associate /Counselor is part of a team of professionals responsible for administering and delivering mental health services to students of Worcester State University. This is a ten-month position, paid over twelve months, with 9 weeks off between June and August each year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean / Director of Counseling Services, the person holding this position must:

(E) Provide individual and group counseling services to a diverse population of students. (E) Provide case management services. (E) Provide consultations to the faculty, staff and parents as needed. (E) Provide training in mental health response to paraprofessional staff, to include RA's, orientation leaders, peer mentors and tutors. (E) Assist in the implementation of mental health outreach to the university community to include classroom presentations, faculty training, as well as other innovative outreach activities.(E) Provide academic support as it relates to student mental health needs and facilitate on campus referral to academic support service. (E) Establish liaison with on and off campus support services for referral purposes. (E) Assist in the planning and implementation of new student orientation programs. (E) Participate in committees, professional development and research. (E} Coordinate and implement mental health outreach to support multicultural student populations. (E) Develop and foster relationships across campus to support a multicultural student population. (E) Implement and incorporate multicultural mental health components into all mental health training. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

Must be licensed in professional discipline in the State of Massachusetts. LICSW, LMHC, or equivalent.

Three years' experience as a counselor in an academic, clinical, or social service setting. Personality and general attitude compatible with those who they are to be associated. Ability to express self in oral and written communication.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to successfully pass a thorough background and CORI check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum Master's Degree in counseling, social work or related field from an accredited institution. Knowledge of Higher Education principles, practices, and procedures.

Prior experience in a college/university counseling center. Bilingual preferred. Specific experience relating to multicultural mental health outreach.

Additional Information:
This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. This is a 10-month position, with a 9-week non-service period from May- July. The firm annual salary for this position is $58,000- $60,000. The anticipated start date for this position is July 29, 2024.
