Restricted to current permanent employees of the Department of Public Social Services who have successfully completed their initial probationary period with Los Angeles County.

Current employees in the unclassified service in the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services who meet the following criteria also qualify to participate in this exam:
Unclassified employees who have attained permanent County status on a classified position by successful completion of the initial probationary period, with no break in service since leaving the classified service OR full-time employees in the unclassified service with at least six months of full-time experience in the unclassified service by the last day of filing.
No withhold will be accepted for this examination.
VERIFICATION OF EXPERIENCE:
Experience gained in a position performing similar kinds of work which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the higher level position will be accepted. Applicants claiming such experience in County service must present at the time of filing written proof of this experience in a Verification of Experience Letter approved by their Departmental Human Resources Manager or authorized representative. Credit will only be given for out-of-class experience to meet the selection requirements only.
Has responsibility for housekeeping and record keeping functions and conducts administrative studies of internal operations and procedures as an assistant to a Section Manager in the Department of Public Social Services.
Positions allocable to this class work for Section Managers in the Department of Public Social Services and perform coordination and liaison functions related to work space, procurement, procedures, report preparation and records maintenance. The consequences of action are generally restricted to the section served. Essential Job Functions
Analyzes and makes recommendations for the resolution of problems of work procedures and space allocation; may participate in the implementation of changes resulting from recommendations.
Prepares reports and projections of workload and staffing and compiles office statistical reports.
Functions as the office liaison with support sections to resolve the housekeeping problems of the section served.
Has responsibility for evaluating, ordering, maintaining, loaning, and inventorying supplies and equipment and for resolving procurement problems.
Assists in preparing the section's annual budget request.
Supervises work project personnel in parking control, building maintenance, clerical assistance and general housekeeping.
Keeps records and control of their time.
Two years of experience in a staff* capacity making recommendations for the solution of problems of organization, procedure, program, budget or personnel. An Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or junior standing* at an accredited college may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Class II Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS INFORMATION:
In order to qualify, you MUST include a legible copy of the official diploma, official transcripts, official letter, evaluation report of a transcript or certificate of completion with your application or within fifteen (15) calendar days from application submission. Official transcript and official letter are defined as transcript or letter that bears the college seal and states "official and/or copy" issued by the school's Registrar Office. A printout of the transcript from the school's website is NOT considered official and will not be accepted which may result in your application being rejected. An evaluation report of a transcript is defined as a report issued by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by the NACES or the AICE of the United States. A transcript submitted that is expressed in a language other than English will NOT be accepted and may result in your application being rejected.
Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part time experience is credited on a part time ratio, such as 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience.

This examination will consist of two (2) parts:
Part 1: A multiple choice test weighted 70%. This part of the exam will assess the following dimensions:

Only those who achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on Part 1 will proceed to Part 2 of this examination.
Part 2: An Appraisal of Promotability weighted 30%. This part of the exam will evaluate the following dimensions:
Knowledge of Applicable Software Programs
Attention to Detail
Planning and Coordination
Candidates must meet the Selection Requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on each weighted part of the examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.

Standardized and copyrighted examination materials are not subject to review in accordance with Civil Service Rule 7.19.
TRANSFER OF SCORES:
Applicants who have taken identical test part(s) for this or any other exams within the last twelve (12) months will have their test responses for the identical test part(s) automatically transferred to this examination. This examination contains test parts that may be used in the future for new examinations. Upon acceptance of your application, your scores may be transferred to the new examination and you may not be allowed to retake any identical test part(s) for at least twelve (12) months.

While these practice materials will help in preparing for the test, we advise you to review ALL related materials that you deem necessary.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
The County of Los Angeles is a Fair Chance employer.
