Job Description:
OFFICIAL TITLE: Staff Assistant, Nursing Laboratory Coordinator (10-month/43 weeks)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Nursing Department Chairperson
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise graduate assistants or other student employees, as assigned

General Statement of Duties: The Staff Assistant, Nursing Laboratory Coordinator collaborates with nursing department constituents to ensure that all related nursing laboratories are scheduled, utilized, maintained and stocked for the purpose of fulfilling the needs of the curriculum.

The incumbent will ensure that plans, policies, and procedures for the nursing laboratories are developed, implemented, and maintained. They will supervise student assistants, as assigned, and provide instruction and tutoring when necessary.

Responsibilities:

(E) Coordinates the master schedule of activities for all nursing labs with faculty; communicates issues to course coordinators and department chair. (E) Provides instruction in nursing laboratories, in accordance with respective collective bargaining agreement regulations and limitations; includes classroom and remedial instruction as well as tutoring and math/med instruction. (E) Develops and sets up lab modules for student instructions in both undergraduate and graduate programs; develops learning materials to enhance student learning; facilitates use of instructional technology. (E) Collaborates with nursing faculty and staff to: identify, establish, implement and evaluate plans and goals for nursing laboratories and simulation centers as well as obtain educational resources and materials for program use and enhancement; includes evaluation of Nursing Resource and Simulation Center resources and services; prepares reports upon request. (E) Maintains records of student laboratory participation and activities, nursing computer/laboratories equipment and materials including but not limited to software, video and audio programs, supplies, etc.; monitors electronic systems and software licenses for renewals, updates, etc. and notifies chair accordingly; ensures laboratories are well stocked. (E) Orients nursing constituents to Nursing Resource and Simulation Center resources and services; orients faculty to test scanner. Supports working with appropriate nursing and grants personnel to identify and develop grant proposals for purposes of funding resources for the Nursing Resource and Simulation Center; seeks donations where appropriate. (E) Supervises graduate assistant and student employees, as assigned.

Maintains partnerships with health care agencies relative to simulation activities. (E) Attends meetings with chair, department, and others; attends workshops and orientations; participates in student recruitment activities, as directed. Participates in writing self-study reports for purposes of accreditation and regulatory exercises. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

1 - 3 years of related experience. Strong background in nursing practice experience; ability to translate principles of practice across various nursing specialties.

Knowledge of educational technology within nursing curriculum focused on educational outcomes with ability to apply it accordingly. Current and unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts. Current CPR for Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of equipment, current and trending nursing technology, and application to educational/practice outcomes. Advanced technology expertise.

Commitment to concepts of innovation and excellence in nursing education. Work schedule flexibility to meet the needs of the nursing program and its students. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to successfully pass a thorough background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in nursing (MSN); Matriculation in MSN program within six months of degree completion may be considered. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. Current certificate in Simulation (INACLS or equivalent) within 3 years.

Additional Information:
This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. This is a grant-funded, temporary 1-year appointment. The firm annual salary for this position is $65,000. The anticipated start date for this position is August 12, 2024.
