Meritage Hospitality Group currently has an opportunity for a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team and help support our Corporate and Restaurant Operations. As a Staff Accountant at Meritage, you would have the following role on our accounting team:

  • Oversee and actively manage the reconciliation of cash and credit card sales

  • Initiate bank sweeps, deposits, and other related transactional processing

  • Responsible for and oversees unclaimed property

  • Responsible for month-end close

  • Prepare monthly financial statement deliverables

  • Work closely with Operations and Accounts Payable

  • Support the Corporate and Senior Corporate Accountant

  • Prepare annual personal property tax returns

  • Assists with various projects assigned

We expect candidates for this role to meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 4 to 6 years of accounting experience

  • Extreme attention to detail

  • Knowledge of and previous work with integrated accounting systems (more than Quickbooks)

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel)

  • Working knowledge of internal controls

  • Reports to the Accounting and Finance Manager

The Staff Accountant position is responsible for the accounts payable function and the accurate and timely execution of processing payroll and related responsibilities. What you will do: Accounts Payable * Perform accounts payable functions including verifying expenses, obtaining appropriate invoice approvals and ensuring timely payment by check or credit card. * Ensure proper allocation of expense by department. * Complete bi-weekly vendor check-runs. * Ensure proper vendor documentation is obtained for all vendors. * Complete annual 1099 filling. * Responsible for the overall management of the corporate commercial card program, ensuring proper supporting documentation is received, and provide education to new users on expectations. * Create employee travel processes and procedures to ensure consistency across organization. * Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of employee reimbursements. * Ensure compliance with use tax laws. * Provide Controller month-end assistance, and reporting as assigned. Payroll * Manage the payroll program to ensure best practices and the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll (HRIS/Paycor). * Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations relating to payroll, tax deductions, and wage and hour compliance through outside education. * Approve and review salary data inputted by HR, input employee voluntary deductions or changes, and audit payroll records. * Enter involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments. * Enter variable pay and employees hours weekly into payroll system and track and maintain PTO and unpaid time off. * Perform 401(k) administrative tracking and audit information for accuracy. * Maintain files and supporting documentation of earnings and payroll deductions. * Ensure timely payroll deduction payments to appropriate recipients. * Provide superior customer service to internal and external customers. * Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions. * Prepare, review, and correct year-end W-2s. * Manage sensitive and confidential information and records. What we need from you: * Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. * 1-4 years' experience in accounts payable and/or payroll preferred, but not required. * Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, and federal and state regulations. * Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity. * Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred. * Experience with Quick books and HRIS programs preferred. * Unrestricted right to work in the US without requiring sponsorship.
