We are currently seeking a seasoned Staff Accountant (Tax and GL) to join our team located at our headquarters in Mira Mesa, CA.
What you'll be doing:
This role will support the Accounting Manager in carrying out the responsibilities of the Accounting Department. Maintains and administers the transaction tax function to ensure timely compliance with multiple states and local transaction tax reporting requirements for several related entities. Assists with the month end close process functions, maintaining the General Ledger accounts and business transactions in a manner consistent with US GAAP and company policy.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns & business filings (sales/use tax, GST/HST returns, Property tax (571L)) in a timely and efficient manner.
Reconciles monthly transaction tax liabilities between GL, trial balance and tax data.
Analyzes monthly sales data, researches, identifies and resolves variances and other tax related issues.
Prepares sales tax journal entries and ensures accuracy of information
Responsible for the annual 1099 processing and reporting.
Responsible for the accounting functions of sales office in NJ.
a.Reviews transactions and coordinates with the appropriate New Jersey Associate.
b.Reconciles bank account, reconcile AR, AP and Inventory, including research and resolution of issues.
c.Prepares journal entries for the monthly activities with accurate GL codes.
d.Reviews sales report and Trial Balance from Omnis (location specific software NJ).
Runs and reviews Fedex charges weekly, processes for payment and books journal entries. Prepares monthly report and analysis.
Creates "Positive File" for BTW disbursements and send to bank daily.
Prepares Quarterly Loan Account Statements for the Shareholders, owners and other loan account holders.
Provides audit and tax support through generation of accurate reports, schedules and documents.
Assists with month-end close process, special projects and other accounting functions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent combination of relevant education and direct experience required.
Minimum five years' experience in accounting required.
Hands-on experience and understanding of US GAAP, Sales & Use Tax, SFAS Rules, Reporting and Analysis
Must have excellent mathematical, problem-solving, time and project management skills
Ability to complete tasks, meet deadlines and adapt quickly to changing priorities with minimal notice.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Experienced with Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
Accounting software knowledge required, QAD preferred.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management and with minimal supervision.
