SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

It is the responsibility of the Staff Accountant to take ownership of all tasks and challenges that they encounter in the operation of their assigned position. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, provide financial, administrative, and clerical support SouthState|DuncanWilliams, providing fast, professional, and accurate service to team members and management, and providing compliance support. The functions include working closely with the business lines to ensure a strong culture of compliance. This position is responsible for a broad range of compliance activities supporting broker-dealer operations and providing regulatory compliance support for all areas of SouthState|DuncanWilliams. Responsible for taking ownership of all tasks and challenges encountered to support the Division's goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensuring bills are paid in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to departmental procedures

  • Comparing purchase orders, prices, terms of payment and other charges

  • Processing transactions and performing day-to-day accounting duties such as account maintenance, recording entries, and reconciling books of accounts

  • Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to ensure that all bills and payments are accounted for and properly posted

  • Verify and investigate discrepancies, if any, by reconciling vendor accounts and monthly vendor statements

  • Support Compliance by assisting with on-going surveillance, reviews, and testing of Duncan-Williams' policies and procedures pursuant to FINRA, SEC, and MSRB Rules

  • Support Compliance by assisting with the review and delivery of request items, and tracking and documenting responses to internal audit requests and regulatory exams

  • Support Compliance by participating in the maintenance of written supervisory procedures documents

  • Support Compliance by participating in monthly markup/markdown and best execution reviews as needed

  • Support Compliance by researching customer complaints and inquiries received by the division as needed

  • Support Compliance by maintaining the required compliance systems for the firm as directed, while fostering a strong culture of compliance within the division

  • Support Compliance by reviewing TRACE & MSRB reports to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines

  • Ability to accept responsibility of unassigned duties

  • Ensure that the Bank's policies and procedures, code of conduct, and regulatory guidelines are strictly complied with

COMPETENCIES

  • Strong understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting payables principles

  • Ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records

  • Must be well-organized, accurate, and attentive to detail

  • Must have strong communication skills characterized by excellent writing and speaking skills

  • Proficient with general office machines and programs to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other software that might be utilized in the department

  • Ability to use the computer efficiently and the capacity to learn new software programs as they are rolled out by the Bank

  • Must have good knowledge of business English, including spelling and punctuation

  • Must be cooperative and willing to assist coworkers and customers on a regular basis

  • Must possess excellent multi-tasking skills and be able to function well under pressure

  • Must be able to remain composed under pressure and respond to customer and coworker concerns regularly

  • Must have a keen eye for detail and follow instructions to the letter

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years experience in securities or accounts payable preferred

  • Certifications/Specific Knowledge: Requires strong written and verbal communication skills. Possess the ability to provide fast, professional, and accurate information. Capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Ability to consistently meet service level standards and goals. Ability to manage multiple requests simultaneously. Requires excellent customer service skills.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES

Required annual compliance training, New Employee Orientation, Series 7 & 63

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations, and identify customers. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer. This position may require bending and reaching. Must be able to walk frequently throughout the day. Must be able to hear and communicate with coworkers and customers throughout the day.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is located in a private office.

Telecommuting roles no matter if hybrid or 100% full time telecommuting must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered.

TRAVEL

Travel may be required to come to meetings as needed.
