Southern Veterinary Partners (SVP) is regional network of animal hospitals with the common goal of providing the highest quality veterinary care to companion animals. SVP currently owns over 60 locations in the Southeast, is acquiring two new locations per month and is sponsored by a leading private equity team.

SVP has a need for a Staff Accountant to join our rapidly growing team in Birmingham, AL.

This role will focus on the companys accounting: preparation of reconciliations for accounts receivable, cash accounts, purchasing cards as well as evaluate and carryout expense control and revenue recognition processes. This position will become an expert in the companys customer financing options and various cash streams.

This role will also be an integral part of the monthly financial statement preparation process and other key functions of the finance & accounting department


  • Understand and account for the companys various cash flow streams
  • Become an expert at various financing options provided to our clients
  • Coordinate and reconcile cash and credit card payments compiled within the local practice management systems to the bank data and subsequently record the transactions in the accounting software
  • Verify validity of trial balance account balances and investigate discrepancies
  • Resolve collections by examining customer payment plans, payment history and coordinating with individual hospitals and customers
  • Calculate and reconcile accounts receivable on a monthly basis
  • Interpret and evaluate the nature and impact of transactions in given areas of responsibility
  • Diligently process and review employee expense reports within Concur
  • Maintain thorough and organized records


  • Bachelors Degree in finance/Accounting or a related field
  • 1-2 years of experience working in retail or healthcare industry preferred
  • Proficient at working in accounting software
  • Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software preferred
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Outstanding presentation, reporting and communication skills
