You will succeed in this position if you have the ability to prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation and be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close. If you think you can participate in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules reporting processes, this role might be right for you. Do you have a complex understanding of Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets? You'll be preferred for this role. Major responsibilities

  • Manage schedules for capital lease and monthly payments

  • Survey and organize various financial data, reporting it in a useful and understandable manner

  • Special projects and impromptu reporting, upon request

  • Produce analyses for monthly balance sheets and income statements for reporting by management

  • Handle intercompany transactions, billings, and reconciliation

  • Assemble journal entries and thorough account reconciliations that include, but are not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, and payroll

  • Assist with the month end, quarter end and year end closing process by preparing monthly financial close workbooks

  • Play a part in a variety of department-wide initiatives

  • Produce journal entries and perform the month end close under minimal supervision

  • Maintain depreciation, fixed asset ledgers, and reconciliation

  • Maintain, implement, and adhere to internal controls under SOX. Also ensure that accounting procedures comply with GAAP - Recurring journal entries maintenance and reconciliation

  • Thorough experience with month end balance sheet account reconciliations

Requirements

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

  • Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Expertise in accounts payable

  • Journal entries experience preferred

  • Proficiency in accounts receivable

  • General ledger experience

  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards

  • 5+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience

  • Competent with spreadsheets and databases

  • BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment - experienced organizational, written and verbal communication skills

  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases

General Summary: Under the direction of the Reporting & Analysis Manager, will be responsible for preparing financial reports and providing analysis to internal and external customers, including: CFO, management staff, funders, grantors, and government agencies. Assist with daily activities and special projects of the Grants Management Department. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Within the team structure, the Grant Accountant responsibilities will include the following: * Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to external customers assigned. Perform grant-related post-award functions and fulfill requests for cost reports, budgets, projections, analysis, communications with customers, reconciliations, and refunding applications. Communicate with fiscal contacts at funding source for problem resolution and information gathering. 50% * Complete monthly and/or quarterly budget and expense analysis of assigned contracts and present results to Reporting & Analysis Manager, Program Staff, and other management as requested. 20% * Perform grant close-out functions required by grants/contracts assigned including reconciliations, financial status reports, final invoices, monitoring year-end liquidations, zeroing out budgets, and financial reporting. 10% * Review general ledger transactions to ensure accuracy; Review monthly revenue and corresponding receivable/payable for cost reimbursement contracts as assigned. Prepare adjustments and journal entries where necessary. 10% * Assist in the monitoring and implementation of the agency's Cost Allocation Plan. Assist in the process for gathering and updating information to update cost allocations (i.e. update distribution codes). 5% * Complete ad hoc projects and research as assigned. 5% Requirements to be successful in this job: * Education: Bachelor's Degree with major in Accounting, Finance or related field. * Experience: 2 or more years work experience in Accounting or Finance specifically with preparation of financial statements; working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Strong preference for knowledge of government funding grant reporting requirements, budgeting, OMB Circulars, and nonprofit experience. Previous audit experience a plus. * Technology Sills: Strong computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of Excel and Word desired; at minimum, must know how to use vlookup, sorting, linking, sumifs, and pivot table basics. Working knowledge of all other Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, etc.) required. Extensive experience with computerized accounting system; working knowledge of Abila (previously MIP/ SAGE) accounting software and Adaptive Insights budgeting tool a plus. * Communication/Customer Service Skills: Strong and effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to interface with others in an effective, open and tactful manner. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, and diplomatic working relationships with colleagues, supervisor, external contacts with funding sources, and the public. * General Skills: Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
