Our client, a rapidly growing government contractor in the greater Baltimore area, is looking for a sharp and motivated staff accountant that wants direct exposure to senior management and hungry to grow. Ideally this candidate will have over 2 years of experience (preferably in government contracting), a business related bachelors degree, and an eagerness to progress in their career. This position will be the right hand to the CFO and will have heavy involvement in the establishment of accounting procedures and processes.   • Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll

  • Support the month end, quarter end and year end closing process by preparing monthly financial close workbooks

  • Special projects and impromptu reporting, upon request

  • Thorough experience with month end balance sheet account reconciliations

  • Maintain intercompany transactions, billings, and reconciliation

  • Produce journal entries and perform the month end close

  • Participate in various department-wide initiatives

  • Recurring journal entries maintenance and reconciliation

Requirements

  • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

  • Proficient with spreadsheets and databases

  • Detailed and have the ability work independently

  • Efficient in QuickBooks ERP systems

  • BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

  • Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases - experienced organizational, written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines

  • Self-starter and strong ethical standards

  • Accounts receivable experience

  • Proficiency in accounts payable

  • Command of payroll

  • Comprehensive knowledge of QuickBooks

  • Adeptness in bank reconciliations

  • Demonstrated knowledge of job costing

  • Account reconciliation experience

  • Recent and relevant accounting experience

  • Strong analytical skills, accuracy and attention to detail

RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES: * Journal entries (weekly and month end). * Account Reconciliations. * Month End Reporting. * Coding / Verifying bills. * Track and analyze spending. * Track and analyze material variances. * P&L Analysis. * Cost Analysis and scenarios. * Budget Support and Tracking. * Capital tracking and justification. * Approving PO's and requisitions. * Monitor cycle counts and inventory accuracy. * Manage the plant credit card. * Supports inventory control and analysis. * Ordering / Maintaining office supplies. * Accepts responsibility to comply with all safety, quality, customer, ISO, SQF and any other regulatory requirements. And has the authority to report concerns that could impact these requirements or suggest areas for improvement. * Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS * BA in Finance or Accounting. * 1-5 years of Finance, Accounting or financial analysis in manufacturing. * Capability to build/maintain excellent rapport with all levels and functions. * Demonstrates strong meeting and presentation skills. * Strong understanding and experience with Word, Microsoft Excel, and Power Point. * Experience with JDE is a plus. * Able to identify, define, prioritize, and address issues impacting the P&L. * Ability to work efficiently and critically think about business problems and solutions, in a fast-paced environment. * Able to communicate effectively and coordinate information to the plant. * Ability to focus on key areas of the plant to help drive improvement.
