Sea-Bird Scientific, the world's largest developer and manufacturer of products for marine waters, is seeking a Staff Accountant for our Bellevue, WA headquarters. The Staff Accountant will report to the Controller. Sea-Bird Scientific's mission is to accelerate the understanding of natural waters -- want to join us in this mission.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in month end close activities, including journal entry preparation for recording cash, A/R, credit card receipts, credit card fees, reclassifications and corrections while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Performs monthly reconciliations of various accounts, investigates and resolves variances accurately and timely.

  • Analyzes and develops monthly variance explanations for balance sheet and P&L accounts.

  • Maintains current desktop procedures for assigned responsibilities and ensures others are cross trained within the department.

  • Performs required Sarbanes Oxley testing and provides related schedules and support to internal and external auditors.

  • Supports the identification of opportunities for automation enhancements of manual processes.

  • Prepare 1099 forms for vendors.

  • Prepare the monthly and quarterly B&O Tax filings and local tax returns.

  • Supports the implementation of Blackline Software to perform account reconciliations.

  • Analyzes intercompany accounts and ensures timely settlement of outstanding balances.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.

  • Minimum 5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Public audit experience a plus.

  • Proficiency in Oracle ERP System a huge plus.

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and SOX.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and do what it takes to meet deadlines.

  • Position will require working on weekend during month-end close.

  • Detail and deadline oriented with strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Location: Bellevue, WA Prepares and executes monthly processes including month end accounting close, budget/expense reporting, and Internal Control Framework (ICF) requirements. Analyzes, interprets, and projects financial data; develops recommendations to aid management in short and long-range financial planning, measuring profitability, and evaluating cost control performance; participates on cross-functional teams, delivering on and tracking progress on strategic and tactical initiatives; analyzes state and federal regulations to determine their applicability to the company; performs research on key competitors; analyzes financial records and reports; performs other accounting studies and projects as assigned. Essential Job Functions * 35% -Validates the accuracy of various monthly/quarterly accounting processes including financial statements, exhibits, schedules and note disclosures for GAAP, IFRS and statutory reporting, budget variance reporting, key performance indicators (KPI) metric reports on financial and operational results. Perform analysis, recommends necessary adjustments, and communicates trends, including providing forecasts as necessary. * 20% -Performs research and analyzes various financial reporting, tax, regulatory guidelines and requirements delivering a summary of key issues along with recommendations to management. * 15% -Participate on Finance and cross functional teams to deliver on strategic initiatives such as product development, systems development, agent/distribution and sales initiatives. * 15% -Prepares ad-hoc reports, analysis, and conducts special projects as necessary. Analyzes existing workflow, ensuring efficient use of resources and participates in implementation of process improvement projects. * 10% -Works with internal and external auditors, and state examiners. Researches and facilitates resolution of issues that arise. * 5% -Provides guidance to fellow staff members regarding department standards and procedures. Physical Actions Required job duties are essentially sedentary in nature, consisting of occasion walking, standing, lifting and/or carrying ten pounds maximum, seeing, speaking, and hearing. Physical Environment Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
