Moffatt & Nichol is actively searching for a Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team out of our Long Beach/ Orange County office. The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the finance department in creating accurate and timely financial records for the organization. This position reports to the accounting manager.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • General Ledger:

  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled or cleared on a monthly basis

  • General ledger reclassification projects (i.e. allowable vs. unallowable expenditures)

  • Perform and maintain general ledger account reconciliations.

  • Compose Misc. Journal Entries

  • Expense allocation between branches

  • Reconcile intercompany accounts monthly

  • Reconcile and clear suspense accounts

  • Prepare schedules for Audits and Reviews

  • Financial Statements:

  • Assist in Preparation of full monthly balance sheets (includes consolidation of multiple companies) with comparison to prior month

  • Assist in Preparation of monthly income statements (includes consolidation of multiple companies). Review for accuracy and analyze.

  • Prepare special schedules for board package and exec comm

  • Prepare monthly exception reports and review reports

  • Tax Accounting:

  • Coordinate Preparation of Annual Federal Tax Return and all required quarterly schedules

  • Coordinate Preparation of Annual State Tax Returns and all required quarterly schedules

  • Coordinate Preparation of Foreign Tax Returns and all required quarterly schedules

  • State License Filing and Annual Renewal Maintenance

  • Property Tax Returns:

  • Completion and filing with proper agencies

Other duties

  • Special projects as requested

  • Joint Venture accounting

  • 401(k) Accounting; reconciliation and preparation of schedules to support


  • Experience: 1 year public or private accounting preferred

  • Consolidation accounting for multiple companies required, foreign currency accounting experience required.

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance or related field required

  • CPA or CPA eligible candidate desired

  • Proficiency in MS Office (emphasis on Excel and Word), Deltek Accounting Software or comparable A/E Accounting Software

  • General keyboard (typing) proficiency, 10-key proficiency

  • Strong interpersonal skills required

  • Strong verbal/written communication skills required
