Staff Accountant

The International Fellowship of Christians & Jews has an exciting opportunity available for a skilled, resourceful, and motivated individual who would like to make a difference in the lives of others in helping a non-for-profit humanitarian organization fulfill its mission. We are presently in search of a STAFF ACCOUNTANT.


Reporting to the Senior Manager of Finance, the Staff Accountant will complete the reconciliation, research, and correction of financial data that will support accurate financial reporting in accordance with internal control policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Reconciles all of IFCJ corporate bank accounts, with the operating account being the most complex. Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information, making recommendations to the Senior Manager of Finance, and preparing journal entries.

  • Prepares various general ledger reconciliations.

  • Assists with monthly general ledger and allocation entries. This will include but is not limited to entries to correct batch, fund, and project allocations.

  • Substantiates financial transactions and reports by researching and auditing documents. Distributes information and backup documents to internal stakeholders as directed.

  • Processes non-donor in-house deposits, stock gifts, CGA's, funds from gifts-in-kind sales, and foreign checks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience.

  • A Minimum of 2 years of experience in Accounting or Finance.

  • Experience creating journal entries.

  • Experience completing bank reconciliations.

  • Experience performing general ledger account reconciliations.

  • General knowledge and understanding of auditing processes and procedures

  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Intermediate to advanced skill level with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Proficiency in accounting software with the ability and willingness to learn new software and web-based programs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively and tactfully communicate to a diverse audience.

  • Attention to detail; strong analytical and problem solving skills with strong follow-up abilities.

  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.

  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple tasks or projects with competing deadlines.

  • Must be self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently with minimal direction, yet not afraid to ask questions when help is needed.

  • Ability to establish and maintain a comprehensive and accurate record-keeping system and office procedures.

  • Willingness to grow in understanding of the Fellowship mission and heritage.

Employment Status Full-Time Overview The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the Director of Finance in maintaining accurate and timely financial resporting; ensuring acceptable levels of internal control; ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and Highgate Hotels Standard Operatiions. Staff Accountant will manage the areas of Payroll Processing, Accounts Receivable and General Cashier. * Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions. * Must be willing to cross train in other accounting or hotel-related areas. * Must be able to prioritize job functions in order to meet deadlines. * Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information. * Must be able to communicate effectively with other departments to achieve common hotel goals. * Utilize and maintain time and attendance systems to process daily, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly payroll and related information to include, but not limited to, input/export payroll hours; modify payroll information (rates, address, status, etc.); record miscellaneous earnings/deductions, etc. * Review and ensure accuracy and appropriateness of all payroll input and output. * Monitor, prepare and communicate financial reports in accordance with Highgate Hotel's requirements meeting various due dates; i.e., daily labor, tip, month-end, overtime reports, etc. * Assist the sales effort in establishing customer credit in accordance with Highgate Hotel's policies and procedures, to include but not limited to the application process, reference checks, credit limits, direct bill listing, deposit requirements and other credit related activities. * Provide customers with accurate and timely invoices, statements and schedules and respond effectively to customer inquiries in a timely fashion. * Ensure proper internal control by monitoring the guest ledger, advance deposit ledger and any other related subsidiary ledgers * Retrieve and process all deposits in accordance with Highgate Hotel's standards. * Maintain adequate supplies of change and provide change to all departments as scheduled. * Prepare Cash Short/Over Reports on a daily, monthly and yearly basis, and advise management on material variances in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's). * Audit cashier banks as required by Highgate Hotel's standards. Maintain all documentation. * Process petty cash receipts and reimbursements on a regular basis and inform management of any deviations to policy. * Maintain a complete record of cashier contracts, and funds transferred to and from the bank. * Prepare and input all required payroll journal entries. * Keep supervisor informed of any unusual events and/or deviations of policies or procedures. * Copy and distribute reports as necessary.
